My mother who raised 4 kids by herself and NEVER asked for welfare. She hadn't worked for her 17 year marriage since she worked in a factory during WW11. When she was left alone to raise 4 kids by herself, she got a job and taught herself to drive. No freebies in our home, everyone had to pull their weight. Also being in the Girl Scouts was a great experience for me.
