i wasn't aware that any Church required tithing....What you give is between you and God and is purely a matter of conscience.....God doesn't want Gifts given out of obligation....He wants gifts given out of love and free will.
There are more ways to give than just writing a check...You can give time you can give food you can help others...Christ taught a general giving spirit in his followers.
I give quite a bit and do you know what,,,,I have been blessed beyond what I thought possable and I am not just talking about money.

The tithe is as old as time. It began with Cain and Abel.
The first murder, Cain slaying his brother Abel, was over the tithe each man brought to God. Abel brought the first fruits and the best of all he had to God. Cain just brought whatever was close to hand. God was pleased with Abel's tithe, but not Cain's, so Cain, in a jealous rage killed his brother.
The tithe is a show of honor, thankfulness, and of obedience.
It is peoples' way of saying God Almighty, I know that everything I am, have, or will ever have or do is because of your love, kindness, & blessing upon me.
Titheing is not between you and the church, it is between you and Almighty God. It is the law of reciprocity. "Give and it shall be given unto you."
It is also our way of proving to God Almighty that Mammon (the God of money) is not our focus or our God. That we KNOW the ability to gain things, have health, life, procreate, have a job, and gain wealth comes from the blessings and favor of God Almighty.
Read Malachi 3:1-12
Jesus says, "I came not to destroy the law, but to fulfill it."
And He did.
Hebrews had two sets of laws. The 10 Commandments and the laws of life and living. These living laws were put in place to keep Hebrew people safe, healthy, pure, and whole. That is one reason they circumsized, for healthier lives of their males; that is why they did not eat pork or shellfish, because these creatures were the scavengers of the land, eating & rolling in their own excrement.
In the Old Testament, the churches & synagogues were the only source of help/support for the widows, elderly, and orphans. The tithe was gathered and used to support the less fortunate in their communities.
When Jesus was on Earth, He said a prayer over all the food offered before He ate, and in this, He told the disciples and followers that praying God's blessing prayer over the food before it was eaten...sanctified/blessed the food...regardless if it was pork, shellfish.
Jesus spoke of the 10 Commandments and told the disciples and those who followed Him, that they were to keep the 10 Commandments, they were bedrock and He himself followed and obeyed them.
What Jesus changed were the overblown life laws, such as: Before Jesus, if a man's oxen driven cart fell into a ditch on the Sabbath, the man was to leave the cart and the oxen in the ditch until after the Sabbath, or he would be guilty of working on the Sabbath which was forbidden & a punishable sin.
Before Jesus, only the Holy of Holies priests were allowed behind the Holy of Holies curtain, where the Ark of The Covenant was kept. In other words, God's earthly abiding place. Only the priests enter & could offer up prayers, sacrifices, and offerings to God on behalf of the people.... When Jesus died on Calvary, the Curtain separating the Holy of Holies was instantly torn in half. Jesus' sacrifice destroyed the "barrier" between God and man.
We are to obey God and give our tithe. That is OUR obedience and pleases God. And we can NOT outgive God Almighty.
Furthermore, what the church does with your tithe is between them and God Almighty and if they abuse or misuse your tithe, then that is THEIR disobedience to God and He will deal with them for it.

I've heard of some churches requiring their new members to provide pay stubs, tax returns, or W-2's so that they will know how much to bill them every month for those tithes.
One of those churches just provided its minister with a Rolls Royce.
I love how Islam teaches charity. Once a year, after you have taken care of your family, whatever you have saved (no matter how much or how little), you pay 2.5% (zakat) of every $100 (that's $2.50 for every $100 you have saved), which isn't even used for upkeep of the masjid--it's used to feed the poor. Of course, regular charity is welcomed, but the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that charity can take the form of simple acts (such as a smile to a stranger, a hug to your wife, letting a car in your line of traffic, picking up a piece of trash in the parking lot of the masjid). And any money you provide to help with the care of a masjid is "perpetual charity," and the blessings of such are ongoing.

The laws you mentioned were part of the Mosaic covenant or law. The New Testament Church is not under law, but under grace. Tithing is an Old Testament law that is never mentioned in any of the epistles. What we are told to do is give freely, as you have been given freely. I believe you give where you are fed. If your local church is preaching the sovereignty of God and the Bible, you should support them, not out of obligation, but out of wanting to be used to spread the Gospel of grace. If you are being fed by a ministry other than your church, you should support them as well. Give as the Spirit places it on your heart to give, do it out of joy and love for the Lord, not obligation.

The Bible teaches that the cleansing of the spirit, is far more important than the cleansing of the body.
Therefore, we do not have to "follow ALL LAWS" to be righteous, but instead to have faith in the spirit in God, to be righteous. When we are clean in the spirit, naturally we will do what God wills.
The Bible also teaches that we as christians should do whatever that is BENEFICIAL to ourselves, and to the Body of Christ.
Tithing helps us not to be too overwhelmed by money. Money revolves around so much our lives that God knows that tithing will show where our loyalty lies. If we are willing to tithe, our loyalty lies with God. If we are not willing, then our loyalty lies with money and the world.
Moreover, if we do not tithe, will money fall then from the sky to feed our committed church workers?
About shellfishes, you can choose to abstain from it still. But Jesus came to sum out His Words in 2 most important points: love God and love people.

Because the eating of meat and things clean and unclean doesn't apply now. But you are to give 10% of your pay to the tithe in church. It is one of the laws that has followed from the Old to the New Testement.

I have found it has become all about money in most religious organizations, because they don't know the full truth themselves so they are misleading others. I just asked a simple quesiotn on how do you serve God in your tradition and got a couple of lack luster answers, because no one knows how to serve God. They only have been taught how to give money to the church and go to church as serving or give in charity. Bhakti Yoga is the process of how to Serve God no matter what your religion it can be applied because it it Universal and Nonsectarian. Read The original New testament before King Constantine changed so many things in the Bible google gospelofthenazirenes.com Also read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada on line go to asitis.com tells how to serve God in all ones activities including working, cleaning, cooking, etc. You sound like a very intelligent person. I hope you check this out.

Those food laws were specifically changed by the vision God gave Peter in Acts..
The sacrificial laws were done away with when Christ himself was offered on the cross, Hebrews (no more sacrifice for sin)
The fact that 10% of your income personally belongs to God is established in the OT, if you don't want to give it to God's work then you don't have to, nobody forces you. The reality is that everything you have belongs to God (if you are a Christian).
I would think you are either
1. not really a Christian and don't want to support the work that you profess to believe in. or
2. You just don't want to obey God and make him your Lord.
Either way God doesn't need your money and if you can live without his blessing then have at it.
You obviously don't know your bible (if you even have one) because you should already know what I have written..

The church teaches tithing for the same reason we are *supposed* to be levying higher taxes on the wealthy than we do on the poor. Many people will not give to help the poor or to support their institution (church or government) unless they are forced to, either by doctrine, by fear, or by law.
