Almost all airlines have a ticket desk at the airports where you can buy tickets - but their main use is to change tickets rather than issue new ones. There are several potential problems you may face if you try to just show up and fly. The first is that you may find that there are no available seats. Airlines like to fly with the planes as full as possible, so you may be unlucky. Another one is that recent changes in US security regulations mean that you have to apply online to enter the USA - I believe the rule says you must apply at least 48 hours before you fly. To do this you need to quote a flight number and probably a booking reference. And you can't quote a flight number without a booking. So looks as though you have to book at least 2 days ahead. Whether you use a travel agent or a website doesn't matter.

You should be able to print out an E-Ticket and boarding pass for your outbound trip. You should also be able to check in online 24 hours prior to your departure. Go to the airlines web site and see what they have to say about check in procedures. A lot of airports/airlines have kiosks where you key in your e ticket/itinerary number as a check in procedure. Does your airline allow seat selection. You'll need to bring some type of photo ID, such as your driver's license or passport. Have fun

I never dealt with expedia. But if you buy a ticket from Cathay Pacific Airline, then they will send you an e-mail confirmation of your purchase.
You have to print this e-mail. And bring it together with your passport and the credit card you've used to purchase the ticket to the check-in counter on the day of your flight. And they will give you the boarding passes.
You have to bring the credit card you've used for the purchase. Or else they will cancel your ticket, refund the money and ask you to pay for the ticket with another credit card (if you happen to have one).

Your Government ID (passport or driver's license are ok) and a copy of the confirmation or itinerary. If you could not print that you should make note of the confirmation number. Also, check the web site of your airline for their instructions. Everything is online and even if you don't have the confirmation number or itinerary, they can pull up your info once you provide them with your ID, it just means you have to strand on line.

Your actual ticket is an electronic ticket; it was probably sent to you in an email from Expedia. As for your boarding pass, that you can probably get from an automatic kiosk, but at a certain point you'll need to show proper photo ID with the boarding pass in order to make it past security.

When you buy tickets online from domestic or international carriers, they send the e-ticket immediately to your e-mail. Others provide you with a reference number that you give at the check-in counter.

A picture ID (i.e. Driver's license, passport), the itinerary confrimation number, and the credit card you used to purchase it. You'll only need the credit card if you use an automated kiosk to check in.

Your ID and the credit card used to make the reservation are both required.
I would bring itinerary printout too.
