anyone who earnestly searches for God Himself will find Him, as the Lord rewards those who diligently seek Him. but compared to the 4.5 billion other people on the planet who don't want to find God, and the approximately 1 billion who actually seek God earnestly, this is a slim ratio. now have this fluctuating ratio all through time...
not everyone seeks earnestly. I suggest you read it from the Amlified Version

why is it that the airlines issue a ticket then tell you that you can only take one small luggage on the plane with you?
.
Jesus didnt say not everyone would get in.... comparing the other half of what he said in Matt.7, he just indicated that a person couldnt take all their heavy load through the narrow gate
so if anyone wants through the narrow gate, all one has to do is drop all the heavy luggage
it reminds me of the move i once saw that was based on actual facts about the early settler days when people from the east got to America and traveled west to find good land.... the women wanted to take all of their good furniture and so forth on their wagons... but it only weighted down and made it hard for the horses to pull the load.
so along the way there would be a steady trail of discarded belongings
because getting to the destiny was more important than keeping what was thought to be treasured furniture that they could actually get later once they were settled on their new land

The answer is quite simple.
Everyone who "seeks" is not that large a number. There are only a few. But, for the who truly seek, they will find, if they knock, the door will be opened. If you ask, you will receive....
Jesus also reminds us that not all those who call him Lord are his. Some use his name in vain only and on the day of judgement he will tell them, "Away from me, I know you not."

That is because not everyone is seeking it, there are many different religions out there and people are being mislead so, therefore, they aren't seeking the true God so the door can't be opened if they don't ask, believe, and receive into their lives.

Everyone who seeks salvation will find it. Very few will seek it. Many will think they found it, but only on their terms or the terms of their religious traditions--not repentance. So there are many who think they are going, but are not. Many will think their good works, deeds or piety will get them in. But that is coming in by your own merits and not the work of Christ. Christ said "I am the Door, He who comes in through another way is a thief."
So yes, seek salvation through Jesus, and you will find it. Knock on the door or redemption, and it will be opened to you. Ask for eternal life, and eternal life you will have.
Good argument. I'm glad you brought that up. - Schneb

well, if you have come into the Kingdom of God, then you'd know t/ answer to that 1! The reference to "...only a few find it" are those who want Jesus as their Lord & Savior and want to be in the Kingdom of God and therefore that Child of God can: "whatever he asks he'll receive, whatever he seeks he'll find, and whenever he knocks it will be opend for him! Just like you'd see if you knew that you are a Child of the Eternal, Living King & we are His Children! We are Royalty!

despite the fact that I am no longer Christian, I will still answer this because I know the answer.
The idea is that everyone is welcome to have "salvation" and "forgiveness," but not everyone will maintain it. It's all about staying in God's good graces, not everyone will follow the so called path of the impossible perfect life that good christians are supposed to follow to have a happy afterlife.
Plus there is free will, we have the choice to accept and the choice not to accept
It's all there in scripture, but as I said, I don't follow it anymore.

Sweetie, the bible is just a conglomeration of writings by stone age starving shepherds in the Middle East. Fairy tales and folk lore, common to all the tribes. Read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins... was on the NYTimes best seller list all winter. Worth every dime.

Cause most people aren't seeking and won't find it. There are tons of people who don't care to ask themselves serious questions or are led astray so they don't find the small and narrow path. But if they seek and ask they will find it. You have to have faith and ask and it will be granted to you.

Because very few seek it...you can tell that by reading yahoo answers and what they have to say about the Lord.
