My dog had a serious pancreatitis attack about a month ago. He is doing fine now and is off all people foods and is on science diet lite to lose weight and to avoid a recurence of the pancreatitis. I would like to give him some kind of bone and I don't know what kind would not upset his tummy. He has had no problems with new diet since he returned from hospital 3 weeks ago. Thank you for your answers. His name is Flash, Rob

Give him Nylabones to chew on. My dogs love them and they won't hurt his pancreas. Do not use real bones, we see so many problems with them!

Avoid any of the meaty flavored or colored treats- you can give him regular milk bones or lite dog biscuits. If you are looking to give him a chew bone I probably would just stick to toys and avoid any of the rawhides or other things that could easily irritate his digestive tract. Baby carrots also make good treats and they have no fat etc. Good for dogs that are trying to lose weight. Alot of pancreatitis issues start with a dog eating something fatty or rich- so just avoid those types of things all together. I am glad that he is doing so well- I hope everything goes well with the diet.

Dogs don't have any need for 'real bones'. They can cause a lot of damage. Why do you need to give your dog bones? His food, and maybe a treat are all that he needs. Especially with his medical history.

Don't feed Flash real bones, they can splinter and get stuck in his throat. If you go to a pet store, there are many bones for dogs and scence Flash had a pancreatitis attack, you might want to get him a natural one without any extra flavoring. This sight also has something that sounds ok for a sick dog: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441775401&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302026203&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&bmUID=1182823396149&itemNo=12&N=2026203
