These hate mongers have the right to free speech, unfortunately. Last summer in Seaford, DE, the WBC got a permit to picket the funeral of a fallen soldier. The city council didn't want to issue it, but Phred Phelps' Phools threatened to sue (there are at least 5 lawyers in his 'church...about 80% of his congregation is family). Fine, but the citizens of Seaford saw things differently and attacked those UGs (Uninvited Guests) and ran them out of town!
Get involved with the PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS. Check out their web site. Take a look in the PHOTO GALLERY for your state and others. You don't have to be a biker or a vet. (My 10 year old grand daughter stood with me and many other PGRs for the welcome home of 88 members of the 41st BCT ANG in Portland, OR a couple of weeks ago. She is now a PROUD member.) You just have to be willing to STAND FOR THOSE WHO STOOD FOR US.
Besides (when we are invited) doing funerals, we also do welcome home missions, farewell missons....and a first in Virginia...a flag line at a soldier's wedding! Wish I could make that one.
Many states of enacted laws concerning demonstrating at military funerals, and the U.S. Gov't has enacted a law that says demonstrations in Veterans' cemeteries can be held...1 hour before and 1 hour after the funeral and I believe 50 yards (I may be wrong on this point) from the internment site.

First let me say this . America is quite simply the best damn country in the world because of the soldier that is being buried ,the soldier that was buried before him , the soldier that will no longer hold his loved ones but he did what he thought was right he stood up for something he believed in ....America. Yet these protesters want to say that he was wrong for doing so not even realizing that the soldier being placed in the ground died so that they can have the right to do as they choose ,say what they want even if their words and actions are aginst the soldier or their family . It is my opinon that these protesters should be drawn and quartered and publically hung with media coverage directed into every home in America just so that if any other protester wants to exercise his "right" to make him or her self look like a complete moronic *** he or she would know what was coming to them for exercising their right given to them by the blood ,sweat and tears of the American G.I. and the G.I. s family .

Well, i feel, that those who do such a thing, like the people who protested a fellow soldier, and very close friend of mines funeral. I can tell you what i wanted to do, and that was plant them in his grave and have my friend back. Yes, we do have freedom of speech in this country, but there is a line, and these people cross it. You can protest government, big business, unions and the like, but how dare they harass families burying a loved one. If it weren't for the freedom riders, i would have got them. Yes, it should be a crime and a month in jail, at teh minimum.

sounds pretty hypocritical to me- really hypocritical. They have no respect for the loss of others loved ones. They think they are morally superior because they protest the war, and in their vast delusions don't realize that the family and friends burying a dead loved one most likely aren't too big supporters of the war at the moment either.
However, I don't think this should prompt a law that makes speaking in such a way at funerals illegal. That will just be fuel for the protesters fire. More oppression from the government, which they are gluttons for. It is best just to pity their stupidity, naviete, and ignorance.

Unfortunately in America they have freedom of speech and have the freedom to voice their opinions no matter how misguided they are. You can employ the police or get a restraining order against the group, but since that is usually more of a pain than necessary just ignore them and try and understand that these are the same people who would not risk their own lives to save their mothers, wives or children.

I believe the correct term is Chicken Hawk

When you see them Protesting, Run them over, they are usually close to a street and say they must have lost their balance and fell in front of your car!
I hope I never see one of these suckers at a Fallen soldier's funeral I'm at, because I will show them about Rights.. Lefts, and Kicks in the A$$! LOL!
Their should definitely be Laws made to Protect Burials of our Troops, because it's sad to not show Support for them Dead, as if they were alive still.

This is new at the funerals but not entirely new. My Aunt and Uncle got several calls in May 1969 where these morons told them they were glad their son described as "that baby killing SOB" was dead he deserved it.

You cannot argue with the mentally ill, just don't work. Their God will reward them for their deeds, not like they think, but I'm sure a special place has been reserved for them.

Total dis-respect. Yes, they need to be banned and the only way we can do this is to have lots of mourning people out there and out number these poor excuses of Americans. The Police need to not allow them. They should be charged with invasion of a sorrow with harassment. These are the types of Americans that have no back bone and will allow our Country to be over thrown and cause lots of Self induced Propaganda.

Unfortunately, it is a matter of free speech. It is in very poor taste, though. I have great respect for the bikers who ride around and keep protestors away from military funerals, and have always thought that if my husband died in Iraq (fortunately he didn't) I would request that they be there for the funeral.

Allow them to protest silently, with their English signs and American flags. Remember, the dead soldiers gave them the right to protest. Then, ship them to Iraq, and ask them to perform the same protest. They wouldn't last 5 minutes without being stoned to death, or hanged.
