I have this difficulty of memorizing my lectures and I'm afraid that could affect my grades. I'm a college student and I want to do great in my chosen profession. I'm a nursing student and it really requires memorizations there-- the drug study, and the like. I'm really having a difficulty retaining all that stuff in my mind. Let's say I had it all-- not all, but some others I easily forgot-- in the exam and then after the exam I can't recall it already. What can I do to retain that important stuffs in my mind?

Take a multi vitamin morning and night to help boost your vitamin and minerals. Your brain is fed by what you eat and if you are not eating a well balanced diet you need the vitamins and mineral supplement to keep your brain healthy. I do it and it has definitely helped.

I had a hard time with cranial nerves in nursing school. I found that if I highlighted my textbooks and wrote everything down, it helped. I would organize my notes and rewrite everything real neat in a question and answer format. I read everything aloud to myself. Then I would write the questions down and answer them without looking at my notes. I used flashcards for some stuff. I got someone to ask me questions. I participated in a study group. Right before each test, I read through my notes quickly. I tried to stay rested and well nourished. I did it and you can do it, too! Good luck!

what you experience is actually pretty normal. everyone has a short term memory and a long term memory. your goal is to move information from your short term memory to your long term and enhance your ability to access it when you need it. the most effective ways for most people include repetition and association (as others have suggested). The wonderful part is, once you figure out a way that helps you store and recall information, you can apply to everything, and your life will be much easier in schoo.

people are different and you might need a different method of trying to memorize facts- I recall information better if I hear it and write it down myself, but other people recall material they have read better. you may also be stressing yourself too much to remember everything you have gone over. try to remain calm and not distracted when you are studying.

my idea of memorizing is just record your lectures in phone or something. these days there are so many options available for recording and listen to them like you listen to music and you will remember atleast 50 to 60 %. medicines may bring in some side-effects too.

Take notes of important things in a journal and try to read them at least once a day. Reciting them out loud also may help.

Associate what you're memorizing with crazy, maybe even disturbing topics. For instance, I can still remember the resistor color code from my electronics class:

Bad = black
Boys = brown
Rape = red
Our = orange
Young = yellow
Girls = green
But = blue
Violet = violet!
Gives = gray
Willingly = white

It's disturbing, which makes it stick more readily.

Chewing chewing gum apparently significantly increases your concentration and also your memory.

If this is not allowed, even chewing motions will even help

If this makes you look like a idiot, apparently marijuana helps you memory, but I fear the effects are worse than the cure.
