This is a really good way to kill your dog. You're using something for a 1/2 ton steer on a dog? I've heard of people overdosing their dog with this stuff. Generally it is backyard breeders and puppymillers who could care less about their dogs anyway.

There are several brands and different percentages.

While heartworm prevention is prescription only for dogs, it is sold over the counter for horses & cattle. So it should be noted that this is an "OFF LABEL" use of this drug.

Ivomec is highly concentrated and must be diluted to be able to administer correctly the small amount to a dog for heartworm prevention. To dilute it mix one cc of injectable 1% cattle Ivomec with 19 cc of propylene glycol. Both ingredients are available at most cattle supply companies. Do not mix Ivomec with water or any other mixers because it will not mix properly and you will not be able to administer the correct dosage. When mixed in this proportion, kennel owners have been giving one cc per 40 pound dog orally once a month for heartworm prevention. A 20 pound dog would get 1/2 of a cc. A 10 pound dog gets 1/4 cc. An 80 pound dog gets two cc. This costs only a few cents a month per dog when given in this proportion. Be sure to SHAKE WELL before using and make sure that the dog does not cough it out. Protect the Ivomec from sunlight and do not let it freeze or get very hot.

There are only a few kinds of animal wormers... The difference is the dosing which it seems that you have figured out...However I would try to call a local feed store, they should be able to help you... Because they deal with different types of wormers and animals... What kind of medicine do you have? pyrantel? ivermectin? injectable or liquid to swallow? all these things make a difference in dosing

You use Ivomec(brand name) or generic ivermectin(it is the same chemical as is used in heartworm preventatives, and is often used to treat demodectic mange). I always used .10cc (1/10th of a cc) per 10 lbs. You are also supposed to dilute it 1:10 with propylene glycol(should be available in livestock catalogs/feed stores). A vet can tell you more, and you should consult with a vet if you want to treat your dogs with this drug. Some animals may have sensitivity to this drug, like anything else. It should not be used in Collie or Collie mix dogs, as they have a high rate of adverse reactions. Also, with the amount in a bottle, it will most likely expire before you use it all unless you are treating quite a few dogs. I just use Heartguard now, though we have treated our farm dogs with Ivomec in the past.

I am not condoning the use of ivermectin without consulting your veterinarian...rather be safe than sorry.

No No No do not mix any of these chemicals yourself. If I remember correctly Ivermectin can kill and Cow wormer dude its for COWS it is NOT for dogs. Ivermectin is good when a PROFESSIONAL handles it. Please go get Heartgard from the vets office. You will kill your dogs if you dont. I used to work in an Animal Clinic and trust me mixing the chemicals yourself is bad news. Very very bad news.

I wouldn't suggest using cattle wormer for dogs unless you have your vet's approval and specific doseage!

Why not use the wormer matched to dogs? You can't be saving that much money.

first of its formula. second are you refering to ivermectin injectable for cattle? you would have to ask your vet for a dose, but basically it is knowing how many mcgs are in heartgard and then figuring out how many mcgs are in 1cc of the cattle ivermec. i know the dose is extremely small. we use oral ivermec (cattle injectable) where i use to work for dogs will demodex, but it can be used monthly for prevention of heartwoms, just make sure your dogs have been tested prior to administering it.
