do your arguments get heated, infuriating or impossible to solve?

Whatever you do, you do it masterfully. We reach across a wide range of living structures and beliefs to meet in the middle of nowhere.

I'm staying that course, it works for me.

Good morning to you, lovey!

Of course we have the right. And maybe it should be our duty. Arguing can be damaging. Debate is better, it just gives each sides' points in a non-arguing way. Debate opens people's brains and makes them think. Try to see the other person's views and maybe they will look at yours. When you are arguing spirituality, you can never "win." Your emotional beliefs are true for you, but may not be for the other person.

I have had spiritual/religious discussions with friends. They could get "heated", though never angry. We all enjoyed the debate. Here, however, with no face-to-face contact, people just get downright mean and nasty. Often I am compelled to give as good as I get. I much prefer a peaceful discussion; sometimes, one just isn't possible. All that can be done is stand toe-to-toe, or walk away. Whether I choose one or the other depends on my mood, and how badly I, or someone else, is being pushed.

When no disagreements can be voiced, then there is dictatorship.

Debate and disagreements are the cornerstone of a free society.

There was little or no debate in the Soviet Union. Even today when the former republics disagree with their former master, they are harshly criticized and some type of political action is always taken against them.

I once heard the French & German leaders criticizing smaller countries in the European Union saying, "Someone so small and new to our Union should learn to hold their tongue".

Jesus debated the truth. Jesus labeled those who disagreed with Him. Jesus made exclusive statements that angered others. Jesus took it upon Himself to violently drive out those who made a mockery of His Father.

Read the New Testament and you will find Jesus arguing with the religious leaders of the day quite often. John the Baptist even called some of them a brood of vipers. Paul often argued in public gatherings.

I understand your feelings, and don't like to argue myself, I post comments and read comments, but decline to argue things when people email me. But that is the Christian way and bible way. When a religion claims one God and one truth arguments are a necessity.

So Christians not only have a right according to the bible but bible examples from the leaders of their religion. Hope this helps.

Hell yeah we have the right to argue, disagree, fling stuff...just don't let it get out of hand or the neighbours may call the police. As far a "spiritual argument" what is that. My spirit is better! No my spirit.....religious beliefs however are fair game.

I have been hooked into tacky responses in the past. I have found that a bran muffin per day keeps the Dragon Lady in me down to a low roar. I will, however, always contend for the faith. I will also try to remember to be a good citizen here.

Sure, I think we are so sensitized from youth to the idea that religion has an untouchable barrier of debate. One must accept others beliefs regardless, and any debate will be viewed as degradation.

This puzzles me, as any other source that claims knowledge has to earn respect through an academic process. There is a borderline, as in all debates, not to cross. Though as I said earlier, our culture is just so sensitized to the idea of religious invincibility, that line is actually very rarely crossed. More often it is just honest debate that is viewed as threatening to those who can not, or wish not, to debate.

No, it actually takes a LOT for me to ever do that. I actually don't know when I've ever done that unless someone is being a bigot. I just find that infuriating. I defend many people against bigoted comments no matter what they believe or don't believe.
I mean I'll debate/argue but I won't fight.

Of course we have the right to argue, it would be irresponsible to fully believe something and not argue in favor of that belief.
Arguments of course can become heated, it is natural that it should be so, human passion being what it is.
Flinging insults and derogatory remarks is fruitless and solves nothing, those who respect one another can always agree to disagree and be amicable about it.

I would never intentionally insult someone who has a different faith than mine. I believe that God (yes, I believe in God) is pure love, and so that's all He wants us to do; love others. By arguing with someone about religion and trying to push my beliefs on them, I wouldn't be acting in love at all. I think the reason why people get so uptight when religion is being discussed is because their entire world is structured around what they believe; if someone were to come along and prove them wrong, their entire world would come crashing down...so obviously each person tries to defend his beliefs in order to avoid that. Now I'm rambling, lol...
