I'm a 15 year old here, turning 16 after the summer around October. I'm 168 pounds and about 5'8". I lost 12 pounds since April, so about 2 months, but I haven't noticed too many changes in my body, like loss of fat, do you know why this is? And summer has just started, i've gained 2-3 pounds back and my diet isn't the best, although I am going to the gym and doing the elliptical for about 30-40 minutes daily, is this enough excercise? Can someone suggest eating habits and excercise and diets please? My goal is to lose at least 10 more pounds by the end of this summer, and 20 by the end of the year.

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism) mix up your exercises, keep your body guessing so it burns more calories
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
and take a multivitamin with breakfast and omega or flax oil capsules.

Eat and don't obsess. Eating 6 small meals a day is much more efficient than eating 3 larger meals. 148 would be on the low side of what you should weigh at your height. Be careful - don't get lulled into thinking you are always "too fat" - losing weight slowly while eating a balanced diet is the very best way. If your diet is balanced, you drink all the water you are supposed and you are exercising - but not over-exercising your body will "find itself". I wouldn't do any more exercise than you are doing - unless you add a weekly sports activity such as tennis, some kind of ball game, etc.

Since you are still in high school - here is a pretty good formula: 15 calories per for every pound of weight - so if you want to weigh 145 you will need to eat 2175 calories a day to maintain that weight - if you are moderately or very active. (15 x 145 = 2175). Read labels and buy a cheap calorie counter book - you can get them at most discount stores.

But mostly - don't obsess - beauty is on the inside, the outside is way less important - really.

Be healthy!

You didn't indicate your sex, and your member name doesn't make that clear. If you are male and have a medium frame your idea weight range is around 154 - 158 and for a female it's 140 144.

You said you don't eat well, so that's likely your problem. You have to burn more calories than you consume, if you want to lose weight.

Cut out the junk food, fried food, sodas, sweets, fast food, etc. Eat lean meats, fruits and veggies, whole grain products, and keep your fats slow (skim milk, lowfat cheeses, etc). Drink LOTS of water, and keep your calories low (but not below 1200 a day). No skipping meals, in fact 4 - 6 small ones is better than the typical 3 (if you do eat 3 make breakfast your largest meal and supper your smallest).

Keep up with your workouts...go for about 1 hour of activity a day at least 5 days a week.

Good luck!

alright, what you must do is what ive done.. im ur age and turning 16 in october.. currently 175 and 6'1 but i look older. Alrighty then now what you need to do is eat more fruits , vegtables, drink water.... No SODAS OR ANYTHING BUT water comes into your mouth.. Cut down on fast foods, unless its like sushi or mexican food thats takes a little while to cook... I want to drop to 155 or 160 myself.. I used to be 200 and around 5'7.. Fruits give you energy, easy to digest and helps you in many ways. Try no to eat after 6 pm... Run a lot dont do weight lifting or anything just run as much as possible at a pace.. Hope you get to your goal this way... i lost 30 pounds in 3 months of summer 06 but over time i gained back to 175 - 180

i'm 16 going on 17 and ugh i hate weightloss.

for one, just be happy you're alive. not to be cocky, but i was gorgeous and i let myself jump on the nicole richie bandwagon and now i have to gain weight back. it's hard but look at the positive before working on the negative or else it's all just an uphill battle.

it's amazing how easy it is to cut calories. don't drink soda, really read the side lables to your food, eat smaller portions and use fast food as a sparing treat, but don't over reward. do not, i repeat, DO NOT try any crash courses cos your body will kick your *** for it, best beieve. you'll either get sick, tired, or gain more. be consious but leniant when you can... when you're at the store, sure you can still get ice cream, just look for low calorie or fat free. fat free cookies i swear are just as good as the regular kind and even leaner meats will do a ton of good.

30-40 is perfect, work yourself slowly up and make sure you're doing things you enjoy not just what a fitness magazine tells you. when you like what you're doing you'll do it, duh. find something fun, get someone to work out with you, and omggg get music, it makes everything so much easier. stretch before and after [its a must!], do as much cardio as you can take, a little weight training here and there and in a month i bet you'll start seeing results. it takes 3 weeks for fat to start to burn off the body a month and a half for muscle definition so don't be discouraged.

i went to sparkpeople.com and it turned my life around. you fill out some questions and bam, you have a customized work out plan, menus and an entire site full of people who are in the exact same predicimate you are.

hope i was of some help..
good luck!!
