Well you can answer that by yourself you know. Well why did you go to school? Why should someone be an architect or engineer?
Well simply, you go to school to be able to work, earn money, be dependent and be a professional. A lot want to be an architect or engineer because they want to build houses and the like.
Why doctor, simply because what happens when there's no doctors? We are left out to die without having someone being able to help us, detect our sickness and being able to cure us.

It can be a GRULING profession--long hours, grumpy co-workers, Little to no sleep, NO home life, and always seem to be on-call.... HOWEVER, those who truly desire to become a doctor should not hesitate... you could be the person who helps find a cure for cancer, or comes up with some surgery that will help formerly permanently paralyzed people WALK or you might take a severely burned victim and repair his face SO well that you could never tell he was ever burned. Doctors are VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE... they train for YEARS, go to school for 8+ years, and pay HUGE malpractice insurance rates just for the "privilege" of giving your screaming child a shot or helping someone cope with death ...Why should someone become a doctor? because he or she has a sincere desire to want to help people...

There are MUCH easier ways to become wealthy. If anyone is doing it solely for the money, he will have a miserable life.
Some are called to it. It is a way to keep yourself intellectually challenged, interact with people, and to make a positive difference in the world.
And you get stick needles in people. Some of us enjoy that :)

The money? The feeling of superiority, especially when refered to by others with the prefix "Dr"? The outlet for your raw intellectual vigor? And the satisfaction of helping others, I guess.
