How does one legally get rid of a gun. We have a couple guns in the house that I no longer want to own. They have been fired at target ranges. Can someone actually sell a gun? What are the laws? How do you know you are giving it to someone who won't do anything stupid. We live in Texas.
Thank you all for any information you can give me.

Pawn shop? But when we bought it, I'm assuming numbers were written down (if I remember correctly, it's been a while) What if it's used in a crime??
Would the police department take it? I can't really walk into a police station with 2 guns, can ? I'd be scared to death. LOL
What kind of Texan am I? Actually, I'm planning on leaving the state, which is why I don't want them anymore.

Gun Stores will re-buy used guns? I didn't know that. I'll give them a call.
Thank you all so very much.

Thank you Thomas. I suppose I can do that, as the gun stores are quite far away. But as for "disposing". What does that mean exactly? Their good guns, I would hate to waste such nice weapons as disposing in the trash or something. Wouldn't another office be able to use it? Sort of in a 'helping the community" kind of way.
Thanks again.

You can sell a gun to anyone. If you are going to sell the gun, I would suggest selling it to a store that will resell it for its own profit. That way you both benefit. If you sell it to a friend, make sure they have permits. If you are not willing to sell the gun or guns, there is another option. You can go to your local police department and tell them you want to turn in some guns. Leave them in your vehicle. They will follow you to your vehicle and make sure the weapons are cleared and safe. They will take them and any ammunition you may have and, in short, dispose of them. They make a report about who and what and then the gun is sent for disposal.

Yes, the police department will take guns that you no longer want. As a matter of fact, here in Portland the police do a day where they sit at fire stations throughout the city and collect guns that are no longer wanted by people and they take them and melt the metal down (destroy them). You need to call your local police department and chances are they will have you take your guns apart and bring them into the police department to be destroyed.

call a valid gun broker interior the section & ask them. They purchase used weapons so as that they are going to maximum probable take it off your palms & ought to %. it up. Why are you able to not basically depart the gun locked up there & get a enable? positioned an indication up at your house of dwelling (like they do with alarm warning signs) warning ppl which you help the 2nd ammendment or something so as that it will ward away attainable intruders & burglars.... how do you not have a use for it? You had a use for it at one time. Texas & California for snakes & burglaries, you will possibly want a gun... do not understand approximately Connecticut... extra: never throw a gun away... c'mon.... Cameron Diaz did that on Knight & Day, tho, huh? Dumb-duh-dumb dumb dumb... that's a cheesey action picture whether it had Tom Cruise so grow to be all curious, ya understand?

You'll have to look up the laws of your state. Packing.org is an excellent site for this. Most likely, yes. You can sell your gun yourself. Maybe at a gun show or to a private dealer (with a license). Gun shows are a great place to do this. If none are available simple stop by a nearby range/gun shop and speak to someone. Most places will be more then happy to purchase them.

you dont know who is safe to own a gun.you can try selling it to a pawn shop.make sure that you have the serial number that is etched on the gun and the make and model number exactly as it appears on the bill of sale as if it is ever used in a bad way you can prove you sold it. the safest way to get rid of a gun is to surrender it to law enforcement and also get a slip of paper with the serial number and make and model of the firearm from them.many gun ranges will buy them too.always look and copy the serial numbers yourself.do not trust anyone, even law enforcement as we are all human and make mistakes,

In the end a gun is simply a piece of property. You can sell it or give it away just like anything else you own.

Bring it to a local gun store if you look in the phone book under GUNS or GUN they would have some place there. As long as they buy guns there should be no problem.

You can turn it into the police for destruction if you want. Otherwise, sell it. You'll never get a guarantee it won't be used in a crime.

TAKE IT TO A GUN DEALER PERSON and he will LEGALLY transfer the gun and ownership to the person YOU sell it to but take it to a gun dealer FIRST and that will solve it... and when you give the gun to the dealer and after the ownership is transferred the gun is NOT yours anymore. the person who owns it is his/hers responsibility,

Go to the police department without them at first. Ask them if you can surrender them. If they say you can come in with them...then do so. Make sure there aren't any bullets in them and there is a safety, if any,on. They should take them off your hands and perhaps melt them into artwork the way they have at my local police station.
