Exist, why do they use Gods name in vain, when they don't believe in God? Why do you say any word that came from the bible as cussing? When they don't believe in that book? hmmmmm, makes one ponder and wonder!

I dont have a clue where atheists are coming from. They seem to want to prove to people that believe in God that God doesnt exist. Why do they care? Have they successfully converted a Christian into an atheist? If they have-big deal. God still loves them.

So let me get this straight. Because Atheists use god's name as a cuss word you figure that must mean that they actually believe the god exists?
Like when an angry atheist yells "[intercourse] you and the horse you rode in on" you figure he thinks you really rode in on a horse and that he really wants you to engage in bestiality?
Figures of speech are repeated because they are common and rote, not because people think the expletive refers to an actual being. Atheists really aren't invoking the Lord to send the end table to hell when they stub their toes and yell "God Damn it." Of the two, Atheists only figure the end table is real.

In fact, your argument cuts the other way. If people really believed that God was real, would they really blaspheme by asking God to damn a piece of furniture? would they really call out that Jesus Christ had a middle initial of H? No, the readiness of so called believers to use the name in vain indicates people don't really believe in the being refered to by the curse.
The reason that Atheists will say "Jesus [intercoursing] Christ" when they see religious zealots fly planes into buildings isn't that they think that Jesus, the Lord Almighty, was having sexual intercourse on the plane at the moment. It is just a common figure of speech in the community around them.
Your agrument is along the lines of my calling you a Pagan because you refer to the days of the week mainly by the names of Pagan gods.

We humanoids seem to take words to heart, especially those words that are "frowned upon" by society as a whole. Alot of 4 letter words come to mind that you hear daily. More a "I dare you to use it" morality. Faulty molding by the creator"who created man in his image" kind of makes one think that he is not so perfect looking....he too gets P O'd and wipes out whole races Read the O.T. for confirmation and add up the numbers. He is one blood thirsty god. Jewish too.

And just to let you know, I have never said "Yehwah damn it" and Jesus was the son of god- the christ child(so he claimed) and not god himself.
So where does it say I cannot use JC in vain.?

Habit.

Do you think you're clever or something? "Oh, I just said Goddamnit--that must mean I believe in God!"

It may make you ponder and wonder, but for the rest of us, it's a pretty simple concept. Usually, when people are mad or surprised enough, they don't have much control over what's coming out of their mouths.

what is really interesting is how many "atheists" are answering or asking questions in this area of Yahoo Answers. My guess is that they really wanna know t/ truth about God but previous religions warped t/ Love of God that He has for His Creation! That's why He sent His Son to die, so, by accepting His sacrifice for us His Blood will clean us from ALL unrighteousness and bring us into fellowship w/ God the Father who so wants to have a real-ationship not a religious one.

I'm not using gods name in vain, I'm using a word that creates a reaction and demonstrates my feelings. I don't associate it with anything religious. It lost that meaning a long time ago. As far as I'm concerned it means nothing.

To answer this question... I would like you to explain two things,

1) How *So many* atheists use God's name in vain.
2) How exactly you KNOW *So many* Atheists use God's name in vain. I don't mention GOD at all. Unless giving general explanations as to why he does not exist.

Stop generalizing. And if we don't believe in the book, why would we consider anything in it to be a "cuss" word?

I believe you might be confusing atheisist with agnostics....Maybe the "atheist are simply using a common well known phase.... People get far to critical of others beliefs and what they say..We all need to focus more on OUR OWN ACTIONS!

Have you ever said "Holy cow"? That's based on the Hindu religion. Does that make you "secretly" Hindu? Hmmmmm...makes one ponder and wonder.

I don't fear the wrath of God so I swear like a sailor. I'm curious about the Christians who take God's name in vain. Why do you do it?
