i don't know how it works in PA, but in TX, you aren't supposed to be able to purchase materials that go into making a uniform. Each Officer is provided with 4 uniforms. The reason for the restricions is to prevent inmates or free-world people (people that do not work in or are not incarcerated in the prison) from being able to sew a uniform to prevent escape attempts.

I'm not sure what institution your husband works at but there's a business close to mine called Trapuzzonos Uniforms that you can order that strip through. In fact, I picked out the type of trousers I wanted and they sewed it on for me. They do online orders too. If you're from the eastern part of the state Atlantic Tactical is a great company I used when I was at the academy.

Sorry, I cant help you with that, but if your hubby is a collector of prison officers uniform paraphernalia, such as flashes, cotton badges etc, drop me a line, I used to be a correctional officer in Sydney Australia and have some keepsakes I'm willing to give away.

If they get their uniforms locally (yours not mine ;)) you can ask there. They might even be able to sell you the pants already done, usually with proof of employment.
You could also ask the institutions uniform officer (if your supplier isn't local there should be one) for an address/ web site that they order from.

i believe you are referring to the stuff called "piping" that is sewn down the length of the trousers, right? Well, the best place to get some would be Jo-Ann's fabrics or a store similar to it. Unfortunately, you would need to literally remove the old stitching down the entire length of the pants and THEN re-stitch them with the piping in place. Your best chance would be to find a law officers supply store(I always went with either www.u.s.cavalry.com or my supervisor whom did paycheck with-drawls to get mine when I was an armed security guard) or his supply master at the corrections facility.

Your best bet would be to buy him new pairs of pants with the striping already on them. You can try www.galls.com or www.qmuniforms.com and they will have pants that you can order with the striping profesionally applied at purchase time.
I wouldn't try to go it myself-it' probably won't be exactly right and might get him in trouble.
