how much time or how often is reasonable to check e-mails, checking online maps, checking events schedules, etc...
(I'm talking about helpful personal stuff to check, not talking about porn)

Your company may allow you to do this during your lunch but that would be it.They do not pay you be on the internet or for takeing care of your own business. I would ask boss-man before getting on it during lunch. Some places would not even appreciate this.

Really? None the company you work for is not paying you to handle personal matters on there time and dime. If you must surf the net check personal email or the like do it during your break or lunch time and not when you are supposed to be doing your job.

Zero. You should NOT be doing anything personal during work time. And you should ask your boss what the company policy is regarding using the INternet during breaks or lunch. If they say it is ok, than fine, just get details on what is permitted and what isn't.

Otherwise, do your personal stuff at home.
