that happens to me constantly. be sure to bring a pack of gum on the plane with you. chew it during lift-off and landing. works like a charm. you can also chew it while up in the air at high altitudes, you can make the oppoing less intense up there, but you cannot stop it in air. you can prevent pain suring lifetoff and langin g though by chewing gum.

You can get some special ear plugs at your local pharmacy called "Ear Planes". You use them for take off and then you can take them out, until an hour before your landing. Meanwhile chew gum or suck on a sugar free cough drop.
Finally, you can clear your ears using a scuba diving technique called "equalizing" (see the reference below). Be sure to be gentle.

Your ears need to pop on the plane - it's the body's way of equalizing the pressure inside the ear.

that is why the airplane used to give you peanuts..but chew gum or better yet pinch off your nostrils and force air into your nose until both ears pop..i do this sometimes when my hearing is bad..i guess this is sinus problem..?? well open your mouth like your going to yawn..this too helps relieve the symptoms..good luck..it is annoying..

Chewing gum helps... Their are two things you can do:
1. Yawn, it releases the air in you ears
2. Pinch your nose together with your fingers while keeping your mouth closed and blow
Have fun!

You need them to pop. It is the pressure correction as the plane gains altitude.
Pinch your nose and blow against the pinch and your ears will pop.
