A “pinch of coca leaves” was included in John Styth Pemberton's original 1886 recipe for Coca-Cola, though the company began using decocainized leaves in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was passed. The only known measure of the amount of cocaine in Coca-Cola was determined in 1902 as being as little as 1/400 of a grain (0.2 mg) per ounce of syrup (6 ppm)[citation needed]. The actual amount of cocaine that Coca-Cola contained during the first twenty years of its production is practically impossible to determine.

Not the 1980s. Coca Cola was first produced a little over 100 years ago. At that time it did contain cocain. In fact, many products did. It was an early type of "caffeine boost". It was even in some medicines to help with absorption into the body. (Sometimes alcohol is used now for same purpose.) But the cocaine used then wasn't well refined or very potent. It didn't have any more of an effect than caffeine, and that was the intention. Hope this helps.

That has not been true since before coca cola was even soda. Originally it was an "elixir". In those days it was made using an active coca leaf which can also be used to derive cocaine. No coke that could have ever been drank from a can with cocaine in it. Hope that answers your question.

LOL Not in the 80's! It was in the original Coca Cola recipe. But it was changed in the early 1900's. . . .It would have been hilarious if they still allowed it all the way up to the 1980's!

I think its not (crack cocaine) that's bit harsh! They just put some chemicals that is addictive for a drink. Advertising & competition makes them do that.Cocaine I think is a very harmful & addictive as I've seen the drug addicts using it.But in Coca-cola its just a mild form but i don't know about cocaine that's in it.Full of sugars makes it addictive to drink.Maybe in the yr. of rock & roll but that coke is still here today, except they branded it as a diet coke just to confuse the buyers.

Your friend is spreading innaccurate rumors.
The original formula for Coca-Cola contained coca;
an extract from the leaves, which make cocaine.
But that was back in the early part of 1900s.
Crack is a much later invention, & much deadlier.
