I know someone who is from Canada but is now living in the US. He says he can't cross the border from US to Canada. When I asked him why he said it was because he is in the process of becoming a US citizen.??? Something sounds funny!! What could be the real reason he can't go back and forth???

Sure this happens.

If you apply under registry provisions of immigration, you can't leave for 3 to 10 years.

Or, more likely under adjust to permanent resident status, he came in as a tourist and applied for permanent residence. Under that he would need to apply for permission to get back into the US and get approval before he leaves. Which translates into probably easier and maybe better for his application to not leave at all.

No, trust me. What he said is true.

When a Canadian is in the process of becoming a U. S. Citizen, they cannot leave the US for a period of up to 6 months. A Canadian friend of mine who married an American had to go through it.
