More people taking an active part in public life would be a start, even the simple act of voting. Democracy is very fragile, as a quick glance around the world will tell you. Ordinary folk having the opportunity to choose who represents them and who they get rid of is immensely valuable, but grossly underestimated. If it quacks - it's a duck, is a pretty good slogan. Usually, Nazi types and other neo-fascists and racists give themselves away, so listen carefully to what they say. Classic give-aways are "I'm not racist, but . . ." and "we're being overrun by . . ." along with a long list of entirely irrational and unsupportable claims. Many racists will also be homophobic, dislike travellers or any other group of people pushing for extensions of human rights. Be vigilant, aware and don't accept any claims without checking the facts. Thugs don't always disguise themselves very well, under a little examination they usually start quacking - then you know they're ducks!

you the voter can stop them or aid and abet them like you have been doing for many decades. Many Councillors have what you call Nazi-type tendencies. But, since the Nazis were imitating the British imperial colonialist model it thus seem irrelevant to stick the tag of right wing to that group. They achieved very little! British right wing more suited to our pompous imbecilic thugs.

If the voters not care who gets elected, or accept negative ads as if they are true, then voters get what they deserve.

In a Democracy, there are usually more people running for an office than there are seats available, like musical chairs, and they will debate each other over important issues. Various organizations poll them for what their views are on a spectrum of issues. PAY ATTENTION, and select the candidate you think is best for the job.

Do not rely upon a single source of info.
Some candidates say one thing to one bunch of people, something else to another audience.
You won't catch this if you are not paying attention.

Unless all the candidates are Nazis, or majority of the voters are Nazis, the people who pay attention and vote will get good candidates.

We make sure not to elect anyone with shiny shoes. "No scuffs, no votes", that's our motto.
