If you really and truly don't care about the history of the ring, and you really like it, I'd vote for keeping quiet. Just act surprised when he gives it to you, and maybe down the road (like on your 5th anniversary) you can let him in on your secret. (He might think it's snooping now; after five years of marriage, it'll just be funny.)
I also wanted to say that I totally respect you for thinking in a smart, mature way about your joint finances. Good for you for loving and appreciating him and viewing the ring a merely a symbol. A ring is nice, but it's even nicer to be able to buy a together and build a nest egg TOGETHER. Hopefully, he realizes what a good catch he has in you. Good luck!

What's puzzling is you say you've already told him you want to pick your own, correct? And he said he wants to do the choosing. What did you say after he said this? And why do you think saying it again will have a different result? Here's why I'm asking. Of course you have a right to like your ring! Hopefully, you're going to be wearing it for the rest of your life. But what I don't understand is why this such a tricky issue for so many people. For example, the way it played out with me is I hated my ring (for the same reasons you mentioned hating the photo you saw). So I told him I happily accepted his proposal, but the ring wasn't going to work. No drama, nothing. We went and found one I liked (to this day, we joke about the ring he picked). So my advice is don't dance around it or suggest you go shopping together as an indirect way of hinting. Tell him the truth. The truth is, you're going to be wearing it forever, and you have some definite ideas about what you want. Heck, use your own words you typed. Have you ever said them to him? "this is the only thing I've ever really looked forward to wearing and it means a lot to me that it's right". It's a communication issue.

Why are you "cleaning" your b/f's room? You just happened to find the ring he bought for someone else and you want to know how to tell him to ask you to marry him and give you the ring? Wow.
I would simply tell him you were going through his things and you found his ring and you're keeping it cause you are getting married. Good luck there.

No. If u guys are getting married next year why don't you have a ring? I would not want a ring that was meant for someone else. I would want to pick my own or least hint toward the type I wanted. Why would you settle for her left over ring. He needs to sell it and get you what YOU want. Not what she wanted.

Just give it to him. Stop making a big deal over it. If it means something to him he'll know what to do with it. Definitely bad luck to have an engagement ring from a past relationship. Good luck with the new one.

You could do either of two things. If you don't feel comfortable telling about it, put it somewhere where you know for sure he'll find it. If you do tell him, just let him know you were cleaning up for him & came across the ring. Let him know it is beautiful & you'd be proud to wear it should he choose to give it to you. OR, you could just put it in a drawer where you know he w/see it & it won't get misplaced again. If you think he w/feel bad you saw it, I wouldn't mention it to him. Only you know what his reaction would be. Judge accordingly.

no he most likely is planning a surprise or something or just doenst want u to find it. just put it back where u found it and just go on with life. maybe he has notihng planned with the ring, maybe he is just holding on to it for memory sake. dont get ur hopes up too high about the ring but dont bring it up. just go on with life and when the time is ready he will bring the subject up!

What good will it do to let him know that you saw it? It really will accomplish nothing besides ruin his plans if he intends on surprising you. I'd say nothing and see what happens... Good luck!!

I would. Just be straight up, say that you found a ring.
OR put it back where you found it and pretend you never saw it.
