The race relations and discrimination card is now being over played everywhere and eventually will become a joke which is a pity because the original concept to wipe out REAL bigotry has been thrown out of the window.I wonder if the girls parents would have been as outraged if they had been in India and their little girl had been given a place in an elite academy and a little white girl refused because as you said the white majority in India get more advantages. If you think I am being sarcastic you would be correct. But I have found on my travels through many different countries that in all but the PC correct western countries you get where you get by merit not by a PC generated quota system if a college has 100 places then the top 100 people regardles of colour or creed get in if you are outside that top 100 you go to the next place and try.If this method was adopted in PC correct countries then there could be no gripe from anyone regardless of colour or creed and would give people something to strive for instead of expecting everything for nothing

The thing this family isn't comprehending is that the quota was set up to ensure that a certain percentage of the school were minorities. This was to ensure that the financially disadvantaged minorities had a path out of the social welfare state of their culture through better education. It is also clear that in this story that the girl that was denied, was not financially disadvantaged and isn't a part of the social class that the law was intended to help.
It wasn't written to give white people an advantage over minorities. I live in El Paso Texas and guess what, even though El Paso is 80% Hispanic and 7% Black and 3% Other, whites are not considered a minority. By the perception of the liberal legislators back in the 50s and 60s, minority meant a person of color.
I agree that the legislation that created this situation is outdated and needs to be repealed, I don't believe there was a discriminatory intent by the admissions board. This is a clear cut example of how affirmative action has outlived it's usefulness! Admission standards should be the same, regardless of minority status.
As long as we have groups like NAACP, ACLU, LULAC and many others demanding preferential consideration for people based on color, creed, ethnicity, socio-economic status, ancestry and about a dozen other characteristics that people want an advantage for, you'll end up with certain areas of our society that makes that quota requirement a henderence to minorities and not an advantage.
As I stated earlier, an entrance criteria or hiring criteria or promotion criteria or whatever needs to be performance based and any criteria imposed for one, needs to be imposed for all.

Well I must say that this is unacceptable. This is such bigatry! What century am I in?! Are you kidding me? Is this hundreds of years ago when we had slavery and worked the indians or the blacks half to death? NO! I feel like I'm not in the U.S. anymore sometimes! And here's an even stupider thing... why in the world would you need a certain racial quota?! Pretty much they're saying that us whites have to be the smartest people in the country. What, so Indians can't be just as smart?
And I do not know who you are, but I don't think that your question is very fair. Why do you think it's always the WHITE people that get more advantages? You can not possibley say that. Black people get just as much advantages as anyone else. So I would suggest you think before you speak, and start hating or even blaming the white people. In fact, the black people have an advanges over us in education! Why? because they have the United N-e-gro College Fund. If we tried setting up the United Caucasian College Fund Rev. Al Sharpton would be knocking down our doors!

Indians have to compete with other Indians, if they are all brilliant than they have to have a super high score. Thats just the way it is. They did that to make it fair to African and White, Spanish and Native American Indians. They dont have the same advantage as Indians because there parents dont force them to read a book at two years old but instead tell them to go outside and play. Indians have an advantage over Africans and everybody else, they did that to make it fair for African, Europeans, Native Americans and Mexcians.

Something does not sound right, perhaps they filled a quota on how many students of a particular race are in the school.
My daughter is half Indian ( Asian) and she is one of the smartest kids in her class. I see that Indians have a natural talent for learning, and I do believe it may of been her race that hurt her, but possible so a black or hispanic kid could get in her place.
Indian people for the most part, are very smart, but they are also very gready, I will never do buisness with them with out a contract.

they tell you why because a judge in the 60's mandated quotas which are a sham in all circumstances. this combined with the great amount of white imigrants leaving brooklyn has lead to the lack of whites in brooklyn therefore they have different standards. the real story happens every day at colleges, and grad schools, not middle school, where whites are routinely put at a disadvantage this is a very rare occasion that whites are being advantaged.
if this is a plea to end all affirmative action show me where to sigh up.

fake media information, it is illegal to not let a kid in because of their race.
she probably did not get in for other academic reasons, no matter what the parents are claiming. Gifted students are gifted, if the child is not considered gifted she would not make it in that school. the parents claim she is brilliant, what parent does not think that about their kid?
She did not get turned down for not being white, I will not believe that.
Also, where do whites get more advantages because I would surely move there. Everywhere I have lived, we get the sh-t BECAUSE we are not a minority.

Actually, my experience has been the opposite. My son was put on a waiting list because whites and only whites had to go through a lottery for available spots. They called to say they would give him a waiver because they weren't able to find enough 'minorities' (a strange word since whites are minorities in the LAUSD) that were qualified, but my son had already enrolled elsewhere.
I think this is untrue.

Racism will always exist if people like you let it. Stop spending your time hating white people and you'll get more out of life. I know indians ****** and mexicans that have a lot more than I ever will but you don't hear me shouting descrimination. You made it a racist thing when you used the term white.

For her to say, "I would have gotten in if I was white," that's a crock and everyone knows it. She would have to compete with other students, regardless of their race or nationality, as well. I bet there are children there who are African or Mexican-American, and Chinese, etc.
Do you know how many Caucasians are denied certain Health care benefits or Bank Accounts simply because they're not Hispanic?
