I recently gat a virus and windows shut down on my computer so as not to harm it. I subsequently ran a full system scan from safe mode and disposed of the virus. However, windows is not going back to normal. It seems that it will not start up normally, I seem to only be able to operate in safe mode. When I attempt a system restore, a box says The operation failed to initialize. I was wondering if their is a "trick", or what your advice is? Also, can I uninstall windows from safe mode, and THEN reinstall it to fix the problem? If so, how?

Boot your PC to safe mode with networking. Then backup whatever files you know are needed to an external drive.
Insert the Windows disk into the CD Rom. Restart your PC and boot to CD Rom. Choose Install and follow prompts. Delete all existing partitions. Choose install on the new empty partition. This will begin the format process of the hard drive and new installation of Windows. Once install is complete and you have installed the new Anti-virus, run a scan on the folders containing the files you need to put back into your new Windows. If they pass, then your done.
Good luck,
