Mankind were one community, then they differed among themselves, so Allah raised Prophets as bearers of good tidings and as warners, and sent down with them the book containing the truth that He might judge between the people wherein they differed. Depends on what you mean by "respect".

I give everybody a basic level of respect, initially. Later, more respect is earned or lost depending on what I think of the person. Most people, I have great respect for, but there are a few I don't.

Ideas and institutions are also given a basic level of respect which is then later earned or lost. I have little respect for religion. It does more harm than good in this world. However, I have great respect for many people who happen to buy into the religious superstitions. The people are great, even if their religious beliefs are off.

In this forum, I understand that people come from many situations and many of them have had religious indoctrination since early childhood. So, I respectfully answer their questions about religion. However, because of their indoctrination, they often interpret my answers as insults, just because I don't hold their superstitions in the same reverence they do.

So, if you define "respecting someone" as not offending them, then I don't think we can nor should be respectful towards one another. If you define "respecting someone" as giving straightforward and honest answers, then, yes, I do respect people here.

'Respectful' is a learned value, apparently many Y A accounts have yet to hone. Antithetical to the crotch grabbing, boxer sagging bad boys who get little respect by honest labor, community involvement, or training for a career. Boring for the hottie bad girls looking for a fast ride and a fast lunch.
Worthy goal, nonetheless. Remember, some of us get it. I value your rights as my own.

If we are truly touched by the Spirit, touched by God, then we can't help but respect other people.

Respecting others never means allowing others to simply do as they please without comment; respecting others means seeing others as a children of God (just like you), and allowing yourself to perhaps see them as God sees them.

This is not always easy, but the least we can do is try. If I put myself in your shoes, even though I am Christian and you are a Muslim, I soon discover that there is little reason for major disagreement. We are simply living our lives, and trying to do God's (Allah's) will.

i hope we can all manage that, no one knows one another so just be nice, leave nice comments, or don't answer. its really not that hard.-being respectful shouldn't even be asked for, or questioned.! (public or internet all should all be the same)
