Do you have the setting on automatic of manual? If you have it set for manual and you are not shifting the engine will go "BOOM!!!"
If you like shifting stay with the manuel and learn which buttons are your up and down shift. If you don't like manual go to the setting menu and select the automatic option for the transmission; this way no more engine explosions and you can have a wonderful racing experience.

Make sure you gear settings are not to low or high.
Don't know if you can change that stuff on PSP.

don't be shiftin to second on the bak stretch at atlanta goin 180.
check your water temps and your oil temps it gets above 240 detonation is imininent.

Your either driving in the wrong gear (third instead of fourth) or our gear ratios are not correct.

Could be that you have too much tape on you're cars nose
