Recruit people because there's so much information out there about the military? Let's face it, young people are more informed now due the internet. They can simply Google the military. Recruiter can't just sucker them into joining the military. Before the rise of the internet, recruiters probably told unimformed young people all kinds of things to get them to join. Now young people can Google anything recruiters tell them so they can make an informed decision.

To answer your question, no, I think if anything it makes the recruiter's job easier.

I joined in 1974. Nobody "suckered" me. Believe it or not, I had to get into my car and drive to the recruiter's office. I didn't get hijacked off the street by a press-gang.

To think that the people who chose to serve the country are suckered shows a certain slant against the military. I was a Vietnam vet, a draftee (yeah we asked citizens to serve). The people who railed against the military in the streets and on the campuses (where I came from) seemed so sincere. However, when they instituted the draft lottery and you knew whether or not you had to serve, the demonstrations shrank to nothing but the die hards anti US types. People denigrate the military (I have learned) because they are afraid of serving and certainly of having to put in on the line for the country. Its important to that type of person to act as though serving is beneath them or they would do it if only kind of crap. During the VN stuff people would say, if the US was attacked I would be happy to serve. We don't hear that at all anymore do we? In 1977 Jimmy the dancing Peanut Carter ended the draft so that you will never be asked to serve your country. Thank God people do. So its convenient to think that people join because they are faced with jail, or they are dumb or they have no prospects because its easier than saying I don't have what it takes to do that so I will make it seem as though its beneath me. People join for a number of reasons but being suckered is not one of them. There is a lot of information around about the military. And about the Marines and people join anyhow. Wonder why? One thing for sure when it was a citizen Army it was the last place left in a white flight country where people could serve together and learn about each other and become tolerant of each other. It still does that but only among those with the guts to serve. For a society that claims to be classless we certainly do have a warrior class and a whimp class.

Recruiters haven't really used lies to recruit for a long time.

My recruiter only told me one but that was pretty easy to see through: "It's a 9-5 job." Yeah, like anyone would believe that!

No, the information age has probably reduced preconceived fears more than making it more difficult to recruit. Now the recruits can confirm the promises and stories told.

not troublesome in any respect. while i grow to be enlisting interior the Marines, I went to their internet site, got here upon the "touch a recruiter" section, crammed out my documents and submitted it, some week later, I have been given a call from a recruiter and scheduled an appointment. it would properly be comparable for you.

Your average civilian doesn't know what to look for on the internet to become well-informed. The information is there, but nobody knows what it is. It's still not best to talk to a recruiter without having spoken to an impartial service member first.

Nope, recruiters had to work a lot harder in the Clinton years. In fact the AF did not even do paid commercials until the late Clinton years.

no, I think it's made their jobs easier. they don't have to lie to get kids to join anymore. the kids have most likely done their research and are just going to the recruiters to clear up bits and pieces of what they couldn't find on the internet.

No. People who want to join, do. They know pretty much what the military is going to be like.

no it doesnt and no one is suckered into anything. defending our country is an honored duty and sadly most of the loyal pelosi ites will never understand that. cut and run is naked raw cowardice and many out there think so and avidly support our armed forces...again ms pelosi could strongly use this type of lesson from americas youth.
