i can be sitting around or driving or walking, and i'll get either a creaky knee feeling or most the time an pain attack which feels as if its consuming my knee with fire.

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome. Pain behind the kneecap. You need a good flexibility program, and use ice on your knee to decrease the pain. Good luck!

Can you feel heat radiating from the knee cap? Mine do and I have Rheumatoid Arthritis
It could be a form of Arthritis or Rheumatoid arthritis or possibly Lupus. If you have ever injured that knee in the past odds are that it will develop future problems.
It could be simple internal damage from an activity of some sort. Good Luck on finding the solution.
