My dad told me that my grandpa used to do that every time they had apple pie. I know it's all American, but wtf? That sounds so disgusting! Has anyone every heard of that before?

It's delicious, but I usually use sharp cheddar like Cracker Barrel. Cheese and fruit are a natural combination, give it a try, you might like it !

Our family has always served cheddar cheese on apple pie - the sharper, the better. But American cheese could work also. It would just be a lot milder. The others that are answering negatively should Try It before deciding. My nephew and I were just talking about apple pie with cheddar last night. He can't wait until early fall when I get some fresh apples and will make us a pie. (He had to settle for strawberry pie yesterday.)

A lot of folks ate it this way. Usually with Sharp cheese not American though. There are recipes from the 20's with the cheese in the crust or pie. Its just like eating apples and cheese..if you are eating REAL apple pie and not that store bought or out of a can stuff. Its really pretty good.

Cheddar is actually a staple with apple pie, not for me though. A scoop of vanilla ice cream, maybe, but the cheese I'll save for a cracker.

in new england there is a long tradition of putting sharp cheddar cheese on a slice of apple pie...it is actually good b/c the cheese cuts the sweetness of the pie. but american cheese on apple pie sounds disgusting, sorry

I love cheese on almost everything but that doesn't sound too great. I wouldn't not try it though...maybe next time I have apple pie and am feeling really crazy...

Yes a lot of people do that. I don't care for it tho. I want my pie as pie and cheese as cheese thank you.

OMG i know. i married a guy from newyork and when i went up to meet the parent of my husband, they served apple pie for dessert. then they sliced sharp cheddar in top of it. DISGUSTING! they also put ketchup on their mac and cheese, grilled cheeses, and eggs. I am from south carolina and i thought we ate some weird stuff.
