A saugeye is a cross between a walleye and a sauger. They are not the same, but similar.
"Saugeye are a hybrid created by crossing a female walleye with a male sauger"
Here is a site that will explain:
http://www.fondriest.com/species/saugeye.htm
and this will tell you why a sauger is different from a walleye:
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/wildlife/Fishing/aquanotes-fishid/sauger.htm
Good luck!

sharon is right. But your husband may not be entirely wrong. In my state SD you can keep 4 walleyes sauger and saugeye count as walleyes on that limit so as far as the state is concerned they ARE the same.

It's "sauger" and they come from Canada and parts of Alaska. They are basically the same fish.
