Is it because you don't base your life on anything besides the grim reality of our world? Your beliefs offer you nothing more to hope for so you have to be angry at those of us that do...
It's not our faults that you all have made a decision to believe in nothing, thus having no reason to hope. Be angry at yourselves, not us.

I've thankfully never claimed to be a literary major, so forgive the apostraphy error. My reality isn't grim, I thank God for the beautiful sunrises, and sunsets, deep inside you probably feel grateful too, but admitting that would mean something you're maybe not ready to face. My question was stated using the same broad assumptions that many atheists have made about all of us Christians.

tirant,
the same as twisted self righteous atheists?
Many of your responses have only made me feel more sad for your group as a whole. However, I gave several thumbs up to the ones that didn't attack my question, but answered it honestly. Thank you for your honesty, I do like to hear other peoples points of view. My question is in response to an angry e-mail an atheist sent to me.

I am an Atheist myself, but I'm not mad at Christians. I just personally don't agree with religion in general. HOWEVER, I do respect people for whatever religious path they decide to travel on, if it makes them truly happy. Being an Atheist makes me happy and if being a Christian makes you happy, then kudos to you! ^_^
Now, for those who do get mad at Christians, they just have nothing better to do than just argue.

You say:
"Is it because you don't base your life on anything besides the grim reality of our world?"
So you do recognize that Christian view isn't reality. Good. Guess what? Religion is what's making the Reality that we all share grim. Let's get rid of Religion and SURPRISE!!! No more Grim Reality. The world will be Bright and Cheery without religion.
Religion doesn't offer anything but delusion. It's not real. Living in a delusion may be pleasant for many of those in it, but it's making the world a mess.

No- it is because people do not like to be told what to do by people who seem to be self righteous, ignorant, superficial hypocrites!
If Fundies didn't try to ram their ignorant bigoted and simplistic beliefs down others throats - then no one would be angry at them.
Normal decent Christians don't seem to do this- just twisted, self righteous fundies...
"Normal" Christians need to realise that they are getting tarred with the same brush as the fundies (because they are so noisy) and need to distance themselves from these people who have such a distorted version of their religion. Creationism and rapture theology are esp. to blame...
As Tom Harpur says- literalism will destroy Christianity if not countered.
ps. in reply to your point- there are twisted self righteous people of all kinds! I was only answering from the perspective of your question towards Atheists and how many of them view fundy Christians (and sometimes through ignorance- all Christians). It's all about context!

I hear people saying that atheists don't have hope, happiness, and whatever else. Guess what? A lot of us do. And to answer the original question, I'm not mad at christians in general. I may be angry with select christians, but not because they are christian, but because they have wronged me in some way.

The world isn't so grim, really. Look around. There is beauty everywhere. Have you seen the sunset? Have you seen a forest?
I'm not angry at all.
I will confess that the misuse of the apostrophe annoys me, but I'll get over that.

The only time I get angry at christians is when they make false statements such as yours.
You are clearly misinformed. I hold no ill-will towards christians. I am not mad or angry at them. In fact, I couldn't care less about them (well, as a whole).
But, when you make these allegations that we are indeed mad at christians, it does make me a little miffed. AND, when you claim that us atheists make a decision to "believe in nothing, thus having no reason to hope", it further intensifies my miffedness.
Hope is not exclusive to faith. We can have hope. I have hope that people like you will educate themselves by talking to atheists instead of making these stupid claims.

Why are you so angry at atheists? You show hate, not love. Is that the real Christian way. Are you following Jesus' lead. Are you a Christian others would look to and say there goes a good Christian. A person full of love and compassion. Think about it and your question.

As a Christian; I had to read the 'question and comments' to clear up the confusion it caused. Perhaps the reason atheist are mad at Christians in this country presently is the fact that 'we' allow nonsense things (plural) in our religion and do not 'clean them out'!!! Do adults 'clean things out' for those kids currently after them? To my current knowledge, there are 7 deviations related to God's word.

I agree there is a lot of stereotyping of Christians and other religious people on this site. But there is also a lot of stereotyping of Atheists and other secularists.
This secularist is not mad at any Christian (at least not for being Christian). I am proud to count as father, mother, grandfather, aunt and uncle, cousin and friend, many a Christian. I do not agree with them about their religious beliefs, but I am not mad at any of them.

If the fundies wouldn't be trying to push science back into the middle ages, I probably wouldn't have a problem with the. Well there is that and the fact that they wish to make the US a theocracy.
