I have lived in both NY and Ca.and they aren't the same. LA doesn't come close to New York City. Moving either direction is an adjustment. But both good experiences.
Just like living in Ca. the north is much different then the southern Ca. The west is much more different from state to state then in the northeast states.
One does need a car except maybe San Francisco and parts of LA.

Here in LA, it is a diverse culture. There are the beaches, mountains, hills, city, etc. everything. It's a fun place to be. I absolutely love NY, esp. the first time I visited. It was only for a couple days but it was great nonetheless. If you're a city girl, then you'll like Los Angeles, and most of CA. Just make sure to stay in the right areas.

If you like endless miles of traffic and crowds spread out for miles and miles, LA is for you.
You're probably thinking downtown is like Manhattan, but it's not at all. If you like NYC, head to Santa Monica. And buy a car.
