Religion claims to be the sole authorship of morality, but it isn't. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find any religion that doesn't have a history of intolerance, violence, bigotry, and other social ills.

The best morality, IMO, is one which is based in humanity. If you just try to do what is good for you and the people around you, you'll do well. Realize that we are all in it together on this little speck of dust in the universe.

That's really the main purpose of morality. We adopt moralities so that we can live more easily among other people. We all have our individual ideals and we all conform, more or less, to a societal standard. This keeps our society evolving and prevents us from getting too stuck in a backward rut that can eventually become self-destructive.

hi! Listen... Believing in God has nothing with any kind of organizations! I do believe in God, I do love God, he does so many things for me all the time. I feel all my life is with Him. Anyway I'm in none of such organizations... I don't even know what exactly religion I am, I don't care really... :) I only know that whatever I do I follow my feeling of what is right to do and what is wrong, well, sometimes I do not what I felt was right but that's the other thing... That's just that God always tells me what is right and what is wrong! :) And everything that has already happened is right! :)
This organizations are bad, please don't go there... If you want to get closer to God, go find some religious books on the religion you like, or of several religions and read and you will see you won't have any need of these organizations whos only wants money and other things...
Also be carefull with those who tell only they will be saved :S...
I guess everybody will be saved ;)! That's what I would have done if I were a god... and as God is much better then me I think this can be true :)! I'm not sure of course!
Have a great day and don't pay money for nothing!!! :) Better give to somebody really in need!

Believing in God teaches you to be good if you follow the Bible. The whole goal is to give everyone a chance to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
I don't know what you meant about "collecting money or collecting obligation". In the Bible(it started back in the time of Adam and Eve. They gave their best of their yield(tithe= stands for 10th of all gathered) to God; even Abraham gave God the best of his livestock and grain.
Nowadays titheeing is giving a 10th of your paycheck to the church(God). Tithing(paying a 10th of our income) IS our obligation.

When missionaries visit we should give something even if its just a dollar or so. That money helps pay for their living needs, etc.
Sometimes a church has a disaster(tornado, fire or other calimity) and so the other churches donate money to rebuild. Some donate but others don't have the money to donate at the time - that's not the end of the world.

I don't know where you came up with the "some threat" because all churches are supposed to be about the love of Christ.

"Some heavenly promise" - Yes God did make some promises to US and it they are in the Bible.

The verses are in this link :http://www.bible.ca/d-7promises-god.htm

God bless you

Well, if you ask me, there are a lot of Bible-pounders on R&S who are extremely judgemental, critical, self-righteous, arrogant and narcissistic so I'd have to say ... the more you let yourself get pulled into the fundamentalist religious vortex, the nastier you become.

I'm a free-thinker and agnostic and I don't feel obligated or threatened or cash poor at all. You might like to stay on the outside edge of religion, looking in, so if someone tries to grab you by the throat and yank you in ... you can make a run for it! LOL

Peace.

Religion and God are not the same thing. There are too many different types of religions, but only One God. Religions recruit because they believe they are doing God's work by recruiting. They use Jesus' method of preaching as their example for recruiting people to their religion. But we have to ask ourselves...if religion no longer existed, would God still exist? Yes..He would..because God is not a religion...He is far greater than any religion...and He cannot be what we make Him to be or what we want Him to be...He IS what He IS.

“The Bible tells us to be like God, and then on page after page it describes God as a mass murderer. This may be the single most important key to the political behavior of Western Civilization.”

It teaches you that bad habit of believing in things you want to believe in, rather than things that are supported by evidence.

This can lead to terrible attitudes like being overly judgemental and ignoring facts.

Ask yourself this question, noble young sir, did Moses not know, before he came down the mountain with the Ten Commandments, that theft and murder were wrong?
