What are some ideas for a winter wedding?

My wedding is 12/29/07 in Long Island, NY. My colors are a mix of blues and silver. I like the snowflake idea, but what are some other things I can do for centerpieces, decorations, bouquets, etc that I can use?

oh, how cool....I also had a winter wedding, and it was really very romantic....our theme was from the Christmas ballet "The Nutcracker"

so the colors where, red, green, gold and silver....the music was of course the nutcracker ballet music...
the centerpiece, the fireplace...and the whole place was decorated like x-mas....everyone just love it....including the ppl at the weeding all where dress like in Xmas colors....

we got married on the longest night, ya no...12/21.....

I'm sorry to say the Ruby is the stone for July not January:). I'm a July, summer baby:). The stone for January is the Garnet (had to look it up what it was for January). If I was having a winter wedding I would drape everything in royal blue and with either an ice blue or silver. Another option, in my opinion is the color combination black, gold and silver, which is like a New Year's feel, which is in January:). For the color of deep red, black, silver, white and gold would go great with it. You could also pair it up with a hunter green, for a late Christmas effect:). You might even getting away with pairing it up with a burnt orange. Maybe have snowflakes, made the old fashioned way, out of construction paper, placed several together on strings and strung all around the the room:). Place candles all around not too many, for safey reasons:). Do you have a coat to wear with your gown? Maybe wear a white fur drape. For the offciant, maybe do a search for a national database. An elegant way to decorate would be to use a lot of twigs sprayed silver. Once fall is here you can start collecting and spraying them. Use them in your centerpieces and decor. You can tie bunches together with blue ribbon and place them throughout the venue. If you are using tall arrangements for the tables they are a great way to introduce height with lower flowers.

Lots of white lights set to twinkle (even use smaller battery versions in your centerpeices), will give a winter wonderland feel.

You haven't said if your girls are wearing blues or silvers. If they are in blues use lots of stark white flowers with silver accents. If they are in silvery colors use blue accents. These can be ribbons or 'glitter spikes'.

Try using a blue and silver plaid to tie it all together. If you find a fabric you like, use it to have table runners and napkins made. If you are having chair covers use it for your bows.

dark green makes a nice compliment to white, silver, and blue without being overtly Christmassy.

I suggest getting a cloak to go wtih your dress. It's so dramatic, and while you're doing pictures outside, it's a lifesaver! Something to keep you warm between shots!

serve wassail to drink, and serve everything on pewter so that it maintains the hot/cold of the dish. Pewter is rich and heavy, and really adds to the ambiance.

I had a winter wedding (if you can't tell) and I had lots and lots of twinkle lights and candles (with and without lanterns).

My boquet was simple - 3 long stemmed white calla lillies (GORGEOUS!). Each of my bridesmaids held a single calla. Everyone said they really loved that.

For Centerpieces, I had table lanters in a black metal with green ivy below it and an ivory candle burning inside.

Another idea I was considering was bowl vases filled with water, berries, and floating candles, set on top of a mirror.

I had little silver bells to give each guest. But another idea I was considering was little tiny wrapped presents (in your colors) full of chocolate mints at each table setting.

Candles lots and lots of tall candles (in hurricane lamps for safety) . Lots of gladiolas white because the are tall and white poinsettias for the tables. A late wedding (like 4PM) so you have darkness it would be so romantic. After 5 dress. Off the shoulder brides maid dress if you have blue then make it a deep dark blue almost a midnight blue. (not navy blue)
So elegant and sophisticated.
Crisp white table clothes. your bouquet could be beautiful white lily of the valley mixed with white Lily's & white roses. The brides maid could have baby's breath with white lily's.
this wedding would not cost a arm & a leg. Just use your imagination & what is in season. Instead of rice blow bubbles...

Instead of clinking the glasses to get the bride and groom to kiss, put silver bells at each seat and people can ring those. The theme could be either "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings" or "Ringing in the New Year" since it's right in between Xmas and New Years. Congrats and Good luck.

My sister had a winter wedding and her colors were blue and silver. For the centerpieces and the bouquets, she used a combination of white and navy blue poinsettas. It was beautiful. Congrats on your wedding ;)

I AM A HAIRDRESSER AND I HAVE DONE MANY WEDDINGS.

THE NICEST WEDDING I SAW WAS A WINTER WEDDING.

THE BRIDE WORE A CLOAK OUT OF THE CHURCH AND THE HUSBAND OR FATHER PLACED IT ON HER BEFORE STEPPING OUTS IDE THE CHURCH.

IT WAS TRIMMED WITH WIHTE FUR EVER SO LIGHTLY AROUND THE HOOD AND THE BASE OF THE MATERIAL, KINDA LIKE RED RIDEING HOOD ONLY
WHITE, LONG AND FUR TRIMMED.

THE BRIDES MAIDS- AN EVENING WEDDING HELD LANTERNS AND WORE ALL VELVET, BEAUTIFUL.
COLORS WORE BLUE VELVET( DARK ) AND YELLOW VELVET WITH RED BURGANDY AS THE ACCENTS COLORS.
AROUND THE SILVERW ARE THEY USED THIN STRIPS OF FUR AND HOLLY IVY ON THE TABLES WITH LIGHTED MIRRORS ON THE BRIDAL TABLE AND LANTERNS ON THE OTHER TABLES.

VERY ELEGANT AND DIFFERENT.

If you don't want the snowflake theme you can play off the winter forest idea, snow in general, perhaps ice.
