I dont think that you are lazy, but smart cause I mean the guy was already out the door,so might as well have him throw out the thrash. And shrimp do smell so I am totally with you on this one. I dont see anything wrong, b/c me and my buddies have drank at a friends house till 2:00 in the morning, and she always asks to put the bottles out in the reycle bin when we leave. So I have no problem and sure enough your date did not have a problem. Screw what everyone says and keep sending his *** out to throw the shrimp. Its the least he can do after you cooking for him. :)

There is nothing wrong with asking for a little help from a guest. A good guest would have offered to help by taking out the trash or whatever. If he refused to take the trash out, kick him to the curb FAST. He's on his way outside and if can't help out a little that is much more LAZY than you asking him to help when you finished cooking for him and cleaning up after his stay.

that isn't lazy at all--you cooked the meal, right?
how did you ask him? I assume it was something along the line of 'hey, do you mind taking the trash out when you leave? the shrimp will smell up the house and its 2am...'...
he should say, 'sure, no problem.'
end of story
is that how it went down? if so, it isn't wrong.
the classy guy would have smelled the shrimp earlier and said--hey, let me run this smelly shrimp out for you.

He was your guest, so you typically don't ask them to do your chores. BUT, as a gentleman, he should have asked if he could take the trash out on his way out the door. I wouldn't say you were lazy, but I would have walked him out and dropped the trash in the garbage can on my way back in. But, I am always looking for ways to stay active, so this is just what I would have done.....

What is WRONG is that he wasn't raised well enough to have offered himself or just did it (if he saw the can overflowing) or smelled the stench of the shrimp. You were totally within your right to make the request since he was at best thoughless about it. Count it up in your future consideration about whether or not the man is a keeper.

Well if they had smelled you should have taken them out right after so your house did not smell like bad shrimp, just common sense. For you to ask him to do it, well to me that was not so fantastic. I don't think that people should get "mad" at you because it's not there issue. But I think that next time you should do it.

No you are not lazy. It's very impolite to ask a guest to take out the trash. If they offer then it's fine. I wouldn't ask any guest to do that, even family. It's just rude not lazy.

I don't see the problem with it. I've had friends take my trash out on their way out. Why not? They're already walking out, why should you have to put your shoes on and walk outside when they're already going? Especially after you cooked for him. I'm assuming you paid for the food as well, so the least he could do is take the garbage out.

I think the reason it was inappropriate was because he wasn't able to wash his hands after taking the trash out and also is bad ettiquette unless your guest was someone like your brother or friend you've known for years and years. If he offered to help, it is a completely different story.
