I will be a live out nanny and travel 14 miles there and back mon-fri. From 7:40 am to 5 pm. She is a single mom with an 11 month old baby. She only wants to pay around $130 per week. I know that is well below minimum wage, but wanted to help her out. What is a good negotiation price to charge weekly? Please, anyone who has a live out nanny or been one feel free to answer.

I have thought about the gas costs as well, but thanks for mentioning that. I keep in mind that since he's a baby, he probably won't need to be driven anywhere. I will definately talk to her about the weekly wages.

You just passed the first quiz in business management 101. You said "negotiate."
You have the right idea!
You want to be fair, you want to help, but it isn't your fault she 's a single mom w/. an a.
11 month old baby. Just keep this in mind, and come up with a figure that's fair to both of you.

In our area Nannies get anywhere from minimum wage to upwards of $800/week, depending on who they are working for. Those on the low end usually get room, board and the use of a car included. The sky's the limit on the high end, especially if you are working for a celebrity family in a upscale neighborhood. The question you have to ask yourself is: Are you looking for a job or are you looking for a way to give charity?

I pay my nanny $8 an hour to watch 3 kids - she drives to my house and picks them up from school, and runs them to lessons when necessary. She eats with my kids (after school snack) and if they go anywhere for a treat (like the mall or McDonald's or whatever), I pick up her bill, too.

Before I had the nanny, my kids went to a daycare where I paid $700 a month plus meals and transportation. That works out to about $15 a day...

Hope this helps.

A $130 a week is only good if she brings the kids to you, and their food. Don't forget the price of gas in your negotiations.

I would say 20-30 dollars a day. That works and people will except it.

We used to pay $200/week.

(And that was cheap - but then used to walk to our Townhouse - she didn't have to drive).
