Here in the U.S, electricity is generally about twice as expensive as gas as a source of heat; much more if you typically run beyond your lifeline ration.

Gas dryers provide heat more quickly and will dry the clothing faster. However the electric dryer is more reliable due to the fact that if the gas dryer pilot blows out you wont know it, youll just have wet clothing an a faint smell of gas. I would definately go with gas though.

Since the gas is directly converted into heat when it is burned, and electricity is made (In many generating plants) by burning gas to drive turbines, the turbines drive the generators, the power is transmitted over wires and through transformers to your home and there it heats resistance wires to make heat and each step has certain inefficiencies, the use of a gas dryer is more efficient.

From an efficiency point of view, probably the gas dryer. And gas is also cheaper to operate than electric dryers.
The one advantage I can think of with electric dryers is you don't have to be concerned about gas leakage as a hazard.

I've always had electric dryers, but I've heard that gas dryers are more efficient (and supposedly better for the environment, too).
Electric dryers are easier to repair. I can and have done it myself many times, but I would not attempt to repair a gas dryer, myself.

Hi. The one with the best energy efficiency, no matter what causes the heat. A clothesline would top them both!
