It depends on which transmission you are referring to. If it's equipped with the V6, it has the 5R55S transmission, which does NOT have a dipstick. Draining and refilling this transmission is accessed from the bottom of the tranmission pan through the use of a TX-30 socket, and a 22mm or 7/8" socket. This transmission requires MERCON V fluid.
If it's equipped with the V8, it has the 6R60 transmission, which DOES have a dipstick, although not the conventional type that the average ordinary do-it-yourselfer is accustomed to.The dipstick on this particular transmission is located on the right/front corner of the transmission case, directly beside the catalytic converter. Filling this particular transmission requires use of a special "hook type" plunger. This transmission also requires MERCON SP fluid.
If it's an Eddie Bauer edition, most likely the latter of the two is the transmission it's equipped with. Hope this helps.

A 2007 Explorer was available with 2 transmissions, they both have a stupid fluid check procedure that involves using a scan tool to monitor transmission fluid temperature. The 5R55S trans has no dipstick, it uses an internal stand pipe in the pan for level checking and then you need to calculate the fluid temp so you can add fluid after the fluid comes out of the plug. The 6R60 trans has a fill plug with a dipstick on it located on the passenger side of the transmission towards the front, again when checking the fluid you need to use a scan tool to get the transmission fluid temperature for an accurate fill. Everything said and done it would be a load easier to just take it to a Ford dealer and have them check it.

Unfortunately, a lot of newer SUV's and some imports are doing away with the tranny dipstick and tube and servicable filter altogether. The vehicle needs to be put onto a lift and uses a check and fill plug senario similar to a manual trans.
To check if the level is "Full", fluid should be visible at the bottom of the plug hole, to add fluid requires a special fluid evacuation and transfer tool that can be bought on the tool truck. (Snap-on, Matco, Mac, etc.)

There isn't one. Most new Ford AOD transmissions are sealed units and do not have a dipstick. They can be serviced, but require special tools ect. My 06 mustang does not have one either. Don't sweat it until you have a 100K miles on it.

change the fluid and the filter in transmission and do not let no one talk you into a trans, flush ,the filter can get a little stopped up and cause poor shifting.

Isn't one. If you feel you must check the level you have to crawl under it.
