I HAVE befriended a conservative religious person. Heck, I've even befriended a complete fundie. It's kind of hard to avoid being friends with religious people at my school as I'm practically surrounded by them.

(Of course, they have no clue that I'm an atheist--but they do know that I'm not a particularly religious person. Partially because I didn't know what things like "Ash Wednesday" were)

I would, although I think the question should be would they befriend me? I've had way to many conservative religious people judge me on my beliefs before they know who I truely am. I do not do that to others.

Sure, I can accept their conservative religious beliefs as long as they can accept the fact that I'm a lesbian and don't really have religious beliefs (just some spirituality).

I do have a work colleague who is a conservative Christian. Oddly enough, we respect the fact that we each have different views and get along wonderfully.

What's with all the talk of "befriending" today??? It makes it sound kinda sinister. I have friends who are devoutly Christian, orthodox Jewish etc etc, i live in NYC!!!!!

As long as nobody forces their beliefs upon me (and i would never force mine upon them) then i'll literally be friends with anyone!!!

If they think i'm gonna burn in hell, so what, have fun with me in life!!

How could I possibly accept as a friend someone who sincerely believes that I deserve to be tortured for the rest of eternity because of my beliefs?

Yes if they respect me enough to let me have my own beliefs without harassment. I would do the same for them.
