That is a very good point. Because you can't trip up a true believer.

Well, when discussing religion, I say one thing, a Christian quotes the bible. I say something else, they quote the bible, then continue to say that the bible is the ultimate authority, I'm going to hell, etc. So I in turn, quote the "words of God/absolute truth", ask them about a particular passage, then they ask me why I can quote their book.

To me the bible is a work of literature. Although I do not believe in God, I do see that the bible has some good messages and stories, just like any other book.

I usually quote the Bible to refute ridiculous arguments that are based on distortions, misstatements, or fabrications of Biblical text. You don't have to believe in God or the Bible to sometimes need to say, "No, actually, the Bible doesn't say that."

It becomes especially useful to quote the words that supposedly Jesus said, like judge not, to some of the more brainwashed religious fanatics that spout hate and bigotry.
If Christians followed only the words of Jesus, I think Christianity would not have a very dark history of hate and violence.
Is is Christianity or is it really Paulianity, Constantinity or Pope Grerority. Do you get my point?

I do not quote God, he has not granted me any interviews.
However, quoting the Bible (or any other sacred scripture) is just good scholarly practice if that is the relevant source of the thought.

There is a certain group of people who are very annoying to me and I absolutely cannot stand the way they speak of God. I am so happy I don't attract this typr of person in my life... if I did I honestly believe I would be locked up or on Death Row by now. Thank you Jesus!

If I am trying to answer a question in the context of ones religion and I feel there is a passage that may offer them guidance or comfort I am going to quote what they are familiar with, what pertains to their belief system.

Because, for believers, the Bible is the ultimate authority. It is their driving force and what they live by. When I am questioning the good book, I use quotes.
(I am not sure if that is what you were asking....sorry if I am off target!)

To show how ridiculous they are...
"Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up." Hosea 13:16
Please explain this verse and how you as a Christian reconcile a God who speaks of infanticide and ripping babies from the bellies of pregnant women.
