What do you think about illegal immigrants who come over and give birth, so that their children can have citizenship?
I personally believe that their kids' US citizenship should be revoked, as the parents went through the process illegally, therefore they should all be deported. I know this is a huge problem in the country, with positives and negatives.
What do you all think?

Right, but what about the situation where the parents come over ILLEGALLY with the sole intent of giving birth to their child in the US, so that our taxpayers can "take care of them", etc. What makes this right? Yes, I understand the 14th amendment, but does this seem right to you?? They're taking advantage of the loophole in our system, simply put.

Then there should be a stipulation in the 14th Amendment saying that if your parents came over illegally, without adhering to the citizenship steps that we have in place, then their citizenship should be revoked.
Doesn't it make you at least a little agitated that this problem is contributing to overcrowded schools, not to mention welfare expendiatures?
We may just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Jonn449 - I'll go ahead and add a 3rd choice: send both parents and junior back until they decide to go through the process legally. I have no problem with people immigrating here. Afterall, that's how we arrived in this great country. If immigrants go through the steps of becoming a citizen (ie, learning the language, taking the test) and are willing to pay taxes and contribute in some way, then more power to them.

I agree with you 100%. Everybody seems to want to ignore the fact that those children's parents came here illegally. The fact that we grant citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants has been a big incentive for them to come here. If we eliminated that, they would probably want to rethink their migration.

You raise a very good point. Put another way, does that section of the 14th Amendment assume legal residency of the parents? It very well could, and this could be determined by an examination of the "legislative intent" as shown by records of the debate, etc., preceding its passage. In any event, something should be done to prevent illegals from gaming the system. The Constitution presumed the existence of an educated and patriotic populace. We've moved quite a way from that, haven't we? Have a nice day.

Ok, fine. The child can stay, but mom and pop have to go home! They should have 2 choices,
1. Put the child up for adoption to legal residents/citizens
2. Take little junior home with them, when junior is old enough to be on his own, he/she can come back to the U.S.
The American public is reaaaaallll tired of this little loop hole in the 14th Amed. No where does it say that the illegal status of the parents is changed because junior was born here. It only says that junior born here in the U.S. is a citizen.

I believe that it is their choice and free will to choose wherever they wanna give birth with or without citizenship, but don't go complaining to me when you get deported leaving behind your child saying it'll tear apart your family. They knew the consequences and the risks involved in the first place...a child is a human being, not a walking green card...

well it's a very hard topic. I have grandparents who came here when they were 14 years old and I am now 20 so they came many many years ago. However, I don't believe this is ok for any immigrants. They are taking over many thingd and it pisses me off. I also when I see immigrants in the stores with all their d a m n kids and they are pregnant again. That really makes me mad. I don't like seeing them on welfar and getting other government help that I have to pay for. They are here illegaly and they shouldn't have a right to any government help. US citzens that need government help can't get it but really need it. If you ask me our US government is really bad and they aren't thinking about us Americans.

You can think that, but there is something called the 14th Amendment that requires anyone born in the United States to be a citizen.

They are Americans just like you and me. So don't hate them. It does not matter the status of their parents. Get over it.

I think the 14th Amendment would get in your way.
And I'm fine with that.
