They believe that Joseph Smith was guided by the angel Maroni to uncover gold plates that Smith was able to translate. The plates told of Ancient Israelis who set sail from Israel (500 bce, I think) and landed in America. The Israelis set up a new civilization in the US and after the Resurrection, the Israeli/Americans were visited by the risen Christ. Somewhere along the way, the tribes split into two. The darker skinned, tribe wiped out the pious, lighter skinned tribe and rejected Christ. These were the ancestors of the Native Americans.

Mormons also believe that when they die, they and their celestial family reconstitute in the body's most perfect form in Heaven and that everyone becomes gods. Also, they believe that God lives on a planet/star called Kolab.

No one is allowed inside the Mormon temples. They hold services at local "districts" (I think). They must wear temple garments under their clothes when entering the temple. I also think there are certain times when white robes are to be worn in the temple. Mormons are very secretive about certain sacred practices.

It has also been in the news recently that the LDS church have a practice of baptizing the dead as Mormons by proxy. This caused a stir when they started to quote-unquote "baptize" Jewish Holocaust victims.

I dont' know many facts about Mormons. I've always been curious to learn about Mormonism a bit better. I spoke with a Mormon man once who told me that a cross necklace is viewed as a negative thing since it represents the killing/death of Jesus Christ. He told me that Mormons are Christians and there really isn't much difference. Another Mormon friend told me Mormons believe that when we die if we follow God's teachings that we will have our own universe with the people we love in it with us. Is any of this true? Someone else told me that Mormons believe that Satan isn't bad and is God's son too. Also that he is revered as Jesus is. Also I've heard they're usually not allowed any stimulants such as caffeine, or depressant like alcohol, drugs, etc. Someone else mentioned something to me about an angel named Maroni (spelling?) and a white rabbit. Is any of this true or does it make sense?

Well first let me start off by saying I am a Christian. I have read the book of Mormon and have stood on Mayan temples on the Yucatan. From what your missionary's have told me is that you can become Gods. That you can save some one who is already dead. That the book of Mormon is over the Bible. That the true church disappeared off the earth for 1000's of year's. There is more but I think you might get mad. If you want to ask more then e-mail me at deplasterer@yahoo.com

I'm not a Mormon. Mormons believe in Jesus Christ, God the Father and the Holy Ghost. They are three personalities who form one Godhead. Jesus Christ is a God Himself and will one day be glorified like His Father. Mormons believe that Jesus is the biological son of God the Father, who has a body of flesh and bones.

Mormons believe that the Church of Jesus Christ went into apostasy after the last of the twelve apostles and other priesthood holders were killed. It was only revived when God and Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith, Jr. in the 19th century. He was given some plates by the Angel Moroni which contained a history of the ancient Native Americans, showing that they are actually descended from Israelites and descendants of people from the Tower of Babel. Joseph Smith was given priesthood keys by resurrected Apostles and Prophets and used these to reestablish the Church.

Are you trying to see what people of other faiths think that Mormons believe?

Or are you actually wondering about the actual tenets of the Mormon faith.

Because it seems odd that you would exclude Mormons from answering a question about Mormon faith.

Well, two representatives from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints came doorknocking just the other day. From what I remember they believe something along the lines of tablets with the book of Mormon were buried somewhere (?) and that Joseph Smith had a revelation, I forget what this had to do with the tablets, but Angel Gabriel came and took them to Heaven. They also belive in levels of Heaven and Hell, which is a bit different from the conept of heaven and hell. Ummm, what else do i remember.... they don't believe in transubstantiation, have two sacrements, don't practice poilgamy (or only a radical sect does)...ummm, the book of mormon is supplementary to the bible, and i think it has more prohets. Thats all I remember..which is pretty pathetic.

OH! and they cant drink coffee!

An ancient Jewish civilization was in America thousands of years ago, despite the fact that there is absolutely no evidence to support this. A barely literate man with a 4th grade education claims he was visited by an angel who told him about magical golden plates with the Book of Mormon written in a foreign language and seer stones to translate the language despite the fact that no one ever saw these except for the barely literate man. Oh yeah, and he “translated” these golden plates whilst looking into his hat! They also think that indigenous Americans are somehow related to Jews or something like that, despite the complete lack of DNA evidence to support this. And then there are the Christian unproven beliefs that they hold true as well, and we can’t forget that they give 10% of their income to their church because of these beliefs.

I grew up 12 miles from Nauvoo, so I, unfortunately, know what Mormons believe. I have prayed often for the Mormons because they have been mislead, first by Joseph Smith, and now by the elders of the church, who threaten those who want to leave the church, or even explore Christianity.

Mormons are not Christian! I know many people in the Nauvoo area praying for all of you.

Even mormons can't get their story straight, nor even agree on what Joseph Smith said/revealed/opined. The resources of the Maxwell Institute is at best an apologist's storehouse, and at worst clearly contradicts the early church leaders - a den of 'anti-mormonism' revisionist thought.

Apparently it's time to take another "vote" on what's doctrine and what's better lefter unsaid. The latter is becoming overstuffed while the former is dwindling.

Ah, for the good ol' days when god told Joseph how to subdivide real estate or threaten Emma.

Do you even know what your church believes? I am not trying to be rude but I have came across many Mormons who do not even know what they believe! I WAS one of them, Was being the key word, and then the truth was revealed to me. Do you believe that you can become a god? That is one thing that your church teaches also they teach that everyone goes to heaven unless you leave the church or commit murder and that is not true. There is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus Christ and yes people do go to hell. That is just some of the stuff that I disagree with but there is a lot more.
