I've been reading a lot on granola bars (oats) the chewy kind, and I know that they have a lot of carbs on them, like 22g or so per bar, and arn't bad for calories...like 170 calories per bar.

Are they a good source of carbs? If not, what else would be a nice handy snack that isn't REALLY expensive (like protein bars)??

the problem with granola bars is they tend to have high fructose corn syrup in them which is extremely unhealthy. look for organic granola bars if you must stick with them but i would recommend powerbar brand bars because they are geared towards athletes. for example they have a high carb one and they also have a high protein one depending on what you're looking for. these go for less then 2$ a peice at the grocery store or target. they run about 250-300 calories but if you're looking to put on muscle mass then you will need the extra calories.

Get active. 4- 6 healthy small meals a day. That's right 4- 6. Nothing less! Over eating is caused by eating only when you are hungry, so you eat till you are full. So eat more small meals and you won't be as hungry at regular meal times. Drink 8 cups of water a day- a big one before your dinner. And eat slower. And get active. Do something: sports, running, weights, bad minton, whatever!

nope...they are too processed. "good" carbs are still in there natural form. things like whole oatmeal, lentils, beans, etc. these are the kinds of carbs that are loaded with fiber and give you long lasting energy as it takes hours for them to be digested and metabolized.

They have a lot of sugar in them. Just look for ones that have less sugar.
