I think there is quite a fine line in expressing your curiosity in other religions with questions, and downright insulting them.

What I would like to see is some more philosophical questions, and less of "How can you atheists/Christians be so STUPID?"

I agree that simple name calling is both childish and a waste of electrons.

However, 'agreeing to disagree' doesn't sound like much fun either. How can you have philosophical discourse and debate, if you simply agree to disagree?

I came here for an argument. To have an argument, I must take up a contrary position. However it isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says. An argument is a connected series of statements to establish a definite proposition.

Because its the same argument thats happening in the real world, we just get on here and argue without anything happening to the other, its a "friendly" (well, not quite) argument. I consider myself a christian, I never said I always lived like I should but I am trying. Arguing and insulting is going on right now and it will continue until Jesus Christ comes back, whether you believe me or not.

Well, it's a perfectly legitimate thing to wonder how/whether people can be so stupid as to believe the kinds of things that creationists typically say, for example. It's also perfectly legitimate to wonder how a Christian can be so stupid as to think that there's any sense in asserting the existence of a god and a set of rules for how one must behave to reach paradise.

Frankly, one of the most salient characteristics of Christian postings here is the outright stupidity - it'd be impossible to honestly discuss many of those "questions" without referring to their stupidity. It'd be kinda like trying to talk about baseball without mentioning the bases or the pitcher.

On the other hand, the Christians' childish attacks perfectly reasonable, adult atheists' comments are completely unwarranted. We could certainly do without that.

I agree; live and let live. And I agree also that we need more conceptual questions. This forum could be an exciting place for exchanging different values and viewpoints but most importantly addressing the fundamental premises they are based on. Instead - so much mud-slinging!It's cheap and it is vulgar.

Wouldn't that be a nice day on earth? Unfortunately, you are always going to have those who insult instead be burdened with the thought that they should take what they have heard and actually study for themselves to find out the Truth.
Have a nice Monday night! : )

Read and understand the insult sometimes some people are making a point.

Because sometimes their insult is simply a reaction to protect the ego. It's like mudslinging on the kindergarten playground. Nya nya nya. BTW I've got a secret and I'm NOT going to tell you...

I'll be more than happy to "agree to disagree". As soon as Christians stop trying to legislate their belief system into all aspects of my life. Deal?
