Our culture seems to want to keep their darker side private and only want to do something kind or thoughtful when they'll get credit. Why can't we move forward and be satisfied with self affirmation by doing something useful?

There are a lot of people who do give charity anonymously. But overall, you are so right!! I guess its just our nature. We need parents to have a parenting class, and that should be one things that we should be teaching our children. I know in February of this year there were over 42 million people on this website, so I hope they have a way of featuring this question. And there ARE people who are genuinely kind, and do do good things when no one is looking. Unfortunately, that's probably only about (I'm totally guessing) 85% of us. Is that about right? Great question. It's going to make me remember to be a better person. This question definitely deserves a star. Way to go. -L
