Okay, let me clear this up for you...I would call myself Pentecostal. Pentecostals believe that the church today should closely resemble the church in the book of Acts.

In addition to basic Christian beliefs (the apostles creed) there is an emphasize on water baptism by emersion (that is full dunking - lol) and on the in-filling of the Holy Spirit. We believe in ALL the gifts of the Holy Spirit including but not limited to speaking in tongues. We believe the Bible is Literal and true.

Most "Spirit-filled" churches have Pentecostal roots. If you hear the term "Spirit-filled" it usually means that church believes in the in-filling of the Holy Spirit.

Modern Pentecostalism can be traced back to a "revival" during the early 20th century that started on Azusa Street in Los Angelos (well, I know it was in California and I believe it was LA).

Additionally, there are several secs of pentecostals...there are the Assemblies of God, Assemblies of our Lord Jesus Christ, Church of God, United Pentecostal Churches and many, many non-denominational church that would be considered pentecostal. Some of these organizations have very strict "holiness" standards (that is they live rules). I am the first to admit, you need to search for a healthy church, not a legalistic one (legalistic, meaning they preach that if you follow certain rules you will be saved, rather than the truth which is your salvation is based solely on the grace of God and your belief in Jesus Christ.)

If you have any questions and would like to email me, that would be great...I'll try to answer specific questions.

There is no one Pentecostal Church;there are many and in theology they range from the Trinity-rejecting Modalist Jesus Only(Jesus is the only Person in God(United Pentecostal Church to the more Evangelical Protestant Assemblies of God to "wild Fundamentalist" independent churches. There are also"Neo-Pentecostal"Charismatic churches and movements in "Mainline Churches"like Episcopal,Lutheran and Catholic.
Speaking in Tongues and the other Gifts of the Spirit (including miraclous healings)manifested at Pentecost in Acts2 are considered for this present age and not just for the Early Church. Some churches have a great deal of lay involvement. Some denominations have bishops and others do not. Most denomimations have believers' baptism and not infant baptism. Worship may be very "enthused" and lively.

Pentecost is referring to the 7 week sabbath after Jesus Crucifixion. 7X7=49+1=50=Pentecost. The Holy Spirit anointed the Church in the upper room. This is the promised comforter that Jesus sent. They were anointing & the fire visions above their heads is the flame of the oil lamp.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to the body of Christ and are explained in Corinthians. Pentecostal Religions believe in the Power of the Holy Ghost & that the Holy Spirit equips the body of Christ today with gifts to encourage one another.

The Day of Pentecost - was the day that the apostles were baptized in the Holy Spirit. And then later the apostles and then more people were baptized in the Holy Spirit. Read the book of Acts in the Bible

That means that the Holy Spirit is for all of us who give our lives to Christ. A part of being baptized in the HS is that most people experience speaking in tongues, while others may receive the gifts of translating or healing.

Pentecostal churches are free in that they don't judge people, we accept anyone who wants to worship Jesus. We are very tolerant, we don't judge other churches, our pastor is NOT bigoted, and we have all sorts of ministries - the children's ministry being at the forefront to teach the children about Jesus.

I pray for the people that gave intolerant answers because all of the Christian churches are Christ's church. The buildings called churches are nothing, the people are the Church.

Yes. Wikipeda has a good article on it.

Pentecostals usually believe that all of the miracles that Jesus and the original disciples performed can also be performed today if a Christian has enough faith (as opposed to most denominations that assume that the Apostles were a special case, and that certain miracles cannot be performed by the average Christian today.).

They tend to put heavy emphasis on "speaking in tongues" as evidence that someone is under the control of God the Holy Spirit.

Great Question

1. Of, relating to, or occurring at Pentecost.
2. Of, relating to, or being any of various Christian religious congregations whose members seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit, in emulation of the Apostles at Pentecost.
