What is the point of changing someones belief? How are you so sure you are leading a person down the right path? You can share what you believe and that person can listen but ultimately that person should determine what they want to be and stick too it if what they are agrees with them. In the end is it so hard to say maybe no one is really wrong. Why must there be a right choice to someone elses wrong choice? After you are no longer able to take a breath what more do you have to be concerned about?

If you put the weight on the word "attacking", I agree it can often be counter-productive and to no purpose.
However, if you mean by attacking, public rebuttal with the goal of refutation, then members of a free society have a vested interest in rebutting certain types of religious claims.
If on R&S you give as a posting on how important Jesus is as your personal Lord and Savior, you will not hear a peep out of me.
However, if you advocate a law that will apply to all citizens simply because such a law would support the idea that the Christian scriptures are infallible, you will get some polemic from me against the infallibility of scripture.

It accomplishes nothing good. In real life, face-to-face, aggression results in more hatred, prejudice, and animonsity. So why should it be any different in a semi-anonymous forum?
Love, patience, and empathy, with delicate show of humility and mentorship, are keys to winning others' hearts regardless of background. The primary motivation to make friends and forge lasting bonds with anyone should be love (1 Corinthians 13:4-13 KJV). If you do not sense love and fellowship from someone asking you about your beliefs, then it is not in your best interest to give this person another minute of your time. God will deal with their hearts on His own timing.
Not sure if I answered your Q. May God assist you in your search to settle this question in your heart!

Because they are not secure enough in their own faith. If they knew without a doubt that what they believed was true, this would not be an issue. They would not mind hearing differing beliefs because they would be so sure of their own. When you come to understand your own feelings and the love you have for your own faith you will realize that others feel the same way about theirs.

Usually we are talking about religion when talking about attacking beliefs. The problem is that there is usually 1 right answer and infinite wrong answers. None can be proven or disproven but logic and reference can be followed and applied to reach several conclusions about what that right answer is. When someone's calculations don't match up with yours, some people are too idiotic to realize that maybe their logic is flawed...

there are as many purposes or reasons for doing so as there are people. even you are attacking here, tho in a passive-aggressive manner, what is your reason? I do not even attempt to change someone else's beliefs, I think that is rude and and insensitive.

Most people are afraid of what they don't understand. So, for them, the easiest way to justify that fear is by an all-out attack.
Kind of like the schoolyard bully....who is too stupid to make a friend, but would rather cause chaos and have enemies.
Sometimes people don't know how to ask questions, especially if they are curious about a particular subject.

The true purpose for attacking other people's beliefs is to make yourself feel superior or better than they are. It serves little other purpose, and will never change other people's belief systems.

What is the purpose of pushing your beliefs onto others? It is amazing that Christians try to do this everyday, with getting legislation changed to follow THEIR morals and beliefs, not respecting anyone else. So, since they have pushed around atheists for the past 2000+ years, torturing us and murdering us, it is time they get pushed back. But it appears they do not like the taste of their own medicine.

Great question. I don't think aggression changes an opposing viewpoint, but it does make the aggressor feel better about himself for some reason.
