Just wondering why someone that is atheist would even bother looking under religion. Is it to down other's beliefs or boredom? I am not being mean, it was just a curiosity.

I used to be Christian and religion has always fascinated me. It is a very interesting aspect of being human. There are 4200 actively worshiped gods and goddesses at this moment, but even Christianity with its thousands of denominations is fascinating.

Let me give you an idea...some Protestants believe Jesus is not God, some do; some believe in baptism, some do not; some believe in communion, some do not; some believe you must have your feet washed, some do not; some believe you must handle live poisonous snakes, some do not; some speak in tongues, some do not; some are liturgical, some are not; some use the bible heavily in their service, but many do not; some dance in the service, some do not, some sing in the service, some do not; some services are totally silent, some are loud and noisy; some live in common, some do not; some accept gays and gay marriage, some do not; some accept polygamy, some do not; some practice exorcism, some do not.

I find this quite interesting because if there is truth, how could you rationally say it is in that mess?

I want to start by saying i am a Christian.

but i am glad the common sense has come through in the end. i had to read over 30 comments before one of them actually had the right answer

sirnarnian said that atheism is a religion.

that is 100% correct. unfortunately all of the other atheists who provided us with answers failed to mention that. Why should Christians be the only ones to put their views across in a forum that is for religions?

it is interesting to not, however, that only one person knows what their faith is about. unless you know that atheism is a religion in itself, you have failed to be a true atheist.

i would like to challenge atheists though. do the atheists out there have a set of moral values?

i don't ask to be rude, but i ask because that is core to the atheistic religion. To be an atheist, you must renounce moral values and must adopt moral relitivism.
Atheism says that no God exists. which, in turn, says that there is no moral code (God being the creator of everything and giving us a conscious to know right from wrong). therefore, if you don't believe in God, you CAN'T believe in a moral code.

This means that atheists who look on the news and see high school shooting, people killing people etc, can not look at these with horror or disgust because atheism says "what's right for you is different to what is right for me and i am going to follow my own rules due to the fact that there is no such thing as a moral code"

true atheism looks on at these killings and so forth and replies "good for them, i wouldn't do it myself, but if they see fit to kill, let it be"

so i challenge all of our atheist friends to think. if you believe you are an atheist, you give up the right to say that you have been wronged or mistreated. and until 'atheists' learn this about their own faith, they can't really be called atheists at all.

and if atheists struggle with the idea that high school shooting are not wrong, that is because God has created all people with the knowledge and the mental capacity to differ right from wrong.

funny.. a Christian teaching atheists about atheism... cause without knowing God, you can not kow atheism

I am a pagan and a Taoist and an atheist. Don't forget that spirituality does not equal religion. And not all spiritual philosophies involve a deity.

Aside from that, I actually am interested in the things Christians in particular say to try to convert people, because I have children and I fully expect Christian children to say these things to them when they find out my kids aren't Christian (it happened to me when I was younger, and oddly enough still happens).

So, I want to have thought about the Christian point of view and their arguments, so I can give a well-thought-out response to my children. I want to be able to clearly articulate what I think, because my ability to answer their questions may be important in my having credibility with my own children.

So I've been in forums like this for years now, and I'm really glad I did. Not only has it driven me further from Christianity than I ever thought I could be, but I think I can explain my views very well to my children, when they ask. I'm even keeping file of FAQ's.

Out of the same curiosity, did you not notice, as you were typing in this question, the little hints from Y!A that this question has been asked, and answered, before? It has. Thousands of times.

I am here because religion interests me. It has an affect on everyone, even those who don't subscribe to it ( discrimination, politics, war, etc).

Also, this is a spirituality forum. Spirituality is not limited to belief in a god.

*DRINK!* Thanks :) I was thirsty

it is the area of existence we don't think in. yet we've an interest int why billions of the planet do have confidence in it. So we ask questions. there is not extra suitable thank you to earnings approximately existence in case you do not communicate. And Yahoo solutions is a huge place to have those discussions. and positively if "atheism" is the absence of religion, it could nonetheless be asked interior the "faith" classification. Plus, if we'd desire to be attentive to why somebody believes in something that they do, the place else could you meant we ask it? interior the "fable" section? I doubt all of us there can supply us a real answer from a non secular attitude.

Ask for Christians Only response, and see how many mockers you can flush out. Welcome to the Land of Fruits and Nuts, as Archie Bunker so aptly put it. FYI I am a Christian and am making an effort to not give us a bad name on here, because it is for all spiritual questions, not just Christians. I have wondered the same as you and even posted a question to that effect. I figure if they go to the barber shop enough times, sooner or later, they will get a haircut. They can not stay away from us!

This is a drinking question it is asked so often!

The category is Religion and Spirituality NOT Religious and Spiritual

Religion affects us whether you believe in god or not. We would like the US not to turn into a Theocracy and are quite tired of having religion in the Secular areas of our country.

To spread ideas. People ask questions directed to atheists there. Atheism is directly related to religion.

Isn't religion about a higher being that effects all of our lives? Why would atheists come here if they "know" this to be untrue?

well, i suppose it's to express their views as well. im a christian, and i don't mind if atheists answer my questions, unless it's not a good answer. the ones that merely say things such as "doesn't matter, because God doesn't exist" shouldnt be on here, because their illogical answers don't support their premise that logically proves, supposedly, that there is no God.

i don't mind if they answer questions intelligently, to discuss. but if they only answer to insult, then i just ignore them, because they just want you to go down to their level. they are people, and i do appreciate it when they can act as such.

same goes for some christians though...some christians take it to the extreme and do the same, insulting, etc. i ignore those ones as well.
