I have a year old staffy who is a very fussy eater. What is the best food to give him to help build him up and will give him all the nutrients and vitamins that he needs for healthy strong bones?

Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Innova, Fromm, and Solid Gold are all the top brands of dog food out there. Other than feeding raw, you truly can't find a better brand of dog food than these.

Regarding the post of the person above me, the benefit of canned food is actually that it has less carbs -- making it healthier, in the aspect that it's less fattening than dry food is. And if you purchase a GOOD-quality canned, there's no gas or digestion problems. Personally, I feed both canned and dry Canidae, and my dog is the perfect weight and in great health.

Some brands I recommend are:

Canidae
By Nature
Solid Gold
Fromm
Orijen
California Natural

Those are all really good foods an they don't contain things like corn in them, so you can really see some results with coat and muscle definition. I have a 1 yr old American Pit Bull Terrier and her coat is gorgeous and she has awesome muscle definition, and I do think that a big part of it is a result of me feeding her only high quality foods since I've had her.

The foods that are best for building muscles are higher in protien and are free of fillers, such as corn, and are meat-based. Combine a high-quality, high protien food, with plenty of regular exercise and you will really start to see some results.

There is also a supplement called Nuvet Plus that you may want to look into. I have not used this one myself, but I know breeders and owners who swear by this stuff. It's supposed to boost the immune system and apparently makes the coat shinier. I have actually heard that theres a supplement called Nupro that gives the same results and is cheaper.

Another thing you can try is giving your pup a whole raw egg once a week. Shells and all. Eggs have lots of protien which helps build muscle, and the shell contains calcium and minerals. Just make sure you don't feed just the egg white alone, because the egg white by itself can make the dog sick.

If you have the time though, the very best diet for your dog would be a RAW diet. I bet even the pickiest dog can't resist some tasty raw meat. If you want to look into it more I recommend you check out http://www.rawdogranch.com

Defiantly a raw diet. It may take a few days before he'll eat it, but after that he should love it. My dog took a while to come around and now whenever I say "chicken time" he comes running in to the kitchen. I could write out everything, but this website has all the info you need to get started, it helped me a lot.

If you really can't stand the raw meat, find a good cooked meat diet(sorry, I don't know any good websites for that) or go with very good grade kibble with meat as the first few ingredients and preferably do dies, who needs them?

As we all know it's important to keep your dog healthy and mantain it's healthy diet. Not all commercial dog foods provide food with the right or enough nutrients and such, and you shouldn't always feed your dog canned foods or these commercial dog foods. You should vary the type of foods your dog consumes by feeding your dog good choices/reccommended (By a/your veternarian) that you can buy, and dog-safe, human foods you can cook for your dog. You should always provide your dog with protein and fats which you can get by feeding your do meat, but don't feed your dog cold cuts, they're high in salts, and too much salt is VERY BAD to your dog's health--it can cause kidney problems. There are certain vegetables which dogs can eat which is needed for a balanced diet such as carrots, lettuce, etc. You're dog needs grains, too. Feed your dog grains such as rice, or gbead. DON'T FEED YOUR DOG WHITE COLORED GRAIN PRODUCTS. They're just as bad to our health, as it is to dog's. Feed your dog WHOLE GRAIN food products.
Please make sure as you're reading this to be aware, knowledgable, or READ MORE about WHAT HUMAN FOODS THAT CAN BE CONSUMED BY DOGS AND WHAT CAN'T.
Thanks.

dont use canned foods. it gives them gas, and it has a lot of fat. use dry dog food, purina brand, and try different flavors.
