yes. im a Marine. we arent in infantry units, but its all semantics.. im an 04, logisitcs. and ive spent more time with grunts then many. my job is supply. my mission was never to go after anyone, but we would fire back when fired on.
ieds dont discriminate and neither do insurgents. and i cant tell you how many times our convoy was held down by attacks.
also, the marines have a female group called the lioness'.. they go on convoys with grunts.. they are there to pat down the female detainness.. and yea, they fire back..

also, females do get combat pay.. and i got a CAR.. (which is difficult to get in the corps.. i know army passes equivillent out like good cookies sometimes.. lol)

First, cybersharque is an idiot.
That being said, i am an MP, and had two females with me downrange in Iraq and both of them kicked *** in combat action, both received bronze stars and i was glad to serve with them. Another female MP got hit by an IED in Iraq and has had 2 neck surgeries already. I give all respect to the women of the military.

Yes, and No.

Females are not sent to fight but the fight does , on occasion, find them.

Infantry units Do Not have females in line operations.

Females are medical, admin, transport and so on and they do run a risk of running into things as Iraq is a war without "enemy lines".

Yes, any soldier or marine may find themselves in a firefight.

The difference is that women are not in combat MOS's and hence do not have a primary mission of seeking out and engaging the enemy. The enemy on the other hand may attack a unit that isn't infantry or tanks and ALL soldiers would fight them.

Yes women do go into combat. They do not serve in front line units, but many serve on ships, in military police units, and as pilots in fighter/attack aircraft, as well as helos. And I have seen some that are more effective at their jobs than their male counterparts I might add.

women are NOT placed in certain MOS's. however, since this war has no clearcut lines, the women who are sent to iraq (and there are many service women there), can and do find themselves in harm's way. so, they'd fight in more of a defensive rather than an offensive capacity.

Yes they do. The military doesn't know a difference in gender.

I don't know about the other branches, but in the Marines they get to see combat for whatever their job is. The only thing is that you can't get an infantry job.

Yes. And they get sent into combat, even though they don't get the same pay as infantry.

From MP's to wheeled vehicle operators, women go in harm's way....they just don't receive the same training as the men.
