i meant that i would like to know exactly what my own dad did in burma etc

sure you can, all you have to do is get a copy of his srb (service record book) go to the veterans affairs office with his ssn# and name and fill out a couple papers stating that you want a copy of your fathers records and sit back and wait a few months and it will arrive. i did the same thing not only for my records but also for my fathers and grandfathers records. good luck

If you know what unit/units he was in and exact dates then you can go thru the process of getting daily reports from the National Archives.

I do not know the process, but came by Regimental Daily Reports of the 317th Infantry Regiment several years ago published by the grandson of a 317th member. They are not real descriptive of real life though. On days I know they were up to there necks in it and taking heavy casualties it would say. 2nd BN met heavy resistance.

You can try CIBmedia. They sell books online. My daughter called to tell me she was closing escrow on the sale of the biz & thought I might find something there. In 5 minutes I had a book written by an Officer of H/2/317. Since my Dad was in HQ/2/317 they chewed the same ground. You could get lucky and find a book written by someone in the same unit too.

since its over i doubt it now but i am sure they had radioes and radars back then
