I've heard lots of complaining about how the Americans "stole " their land. The current Mexicans say that Mexico went all the way up the west coast to include a small part of Washington State.
After doing a little research, I have found that just before the start of the Mexican-American War, the dispute was the land between the Rio Grande, and the Nueces River in southern Texas. The U.S. claimed that Mexico's northern border was the Rio Grande, Mexico claimed their northern border was the Nueces River!
Ok, the Mexican Govt of early 1846 actually claimed that their northern border was the Nueces River!!!! That's a long way off from all of the American southwest, Calif, etc, into Washington.
So to all the Mexicans that "claim" we stole their land, SHUT UP! Your own Govt said their border was in Southern Texas....BEFORE the Mex-US war!
Don't take my word for it, google the Mexican-American War and read it yourselves. So your claim of stolen land is false, so you are invading another country illegally. I'd be happy if you all went south of the Nueces River!!!

The ones who wanted to stay after the war were allowed to stay as citizens. The ones that didn't were free to leave. We also paid for the land and forgave some debts that Mexico owed us. The border didn't cross anyone who is living today (or even then, really). Did you know that many Mexicans fought on the side of the US? Did you also know that Texas was an independent nation for ten years before they decided to become part of this country?

I don't remember the border ever crossing you. Especially considering you were not alive during 1848. If you were alive, then you need to contact the Guiness Book of World records for being the oldest person alive today. But I do recall in History class learning about the US buying land from Mexico around that time.

Mexicans, or any foreigner who cross the border legally have the same rights as any visitor to the United States.
Mexicans, or any other foreigners, who sneak across the border illegally, and who remain here illegally, and knowingly, are criminals and, as such, should, in my opinion, have no rights. They should not be to allowed work. They should not be allowed credit. They should not be allowed to possess US coin or currency. They should not be allowed to own property or rent. They should not be allowed to drive--or even own or rent a car. They should not be entitled to fire and police protection. They should not be allowed medical and dental services other than that for which they can pay cash. They should be totally ignored unless they are speaking in understandable English. Children born to these criminals, as citizens of the United States, should be removed from the criminal environment into which they're born and made wards of the State.
BUT... United States citizens, whither their ancestors were Mexican, Irish, German, African, Japanese, Italian, French, Russian, Chinese or from any other country in the world, all have the same rights guaranteed to citizens of the United States by the Constitution and laws of this land. It seems prudent that they all fight to protect those rights from abuse by criminals.

Well borders do move when the land is sold ya know.
And since Mexicans that were living in the territory that was sold were allowed to stay, then the remaining Mexicans at the time didnt live in those territories... so no borders crossed anyone else.
And you were not alive when that event happened. No borders crossed you.

Since those whom the 'border crossed' would be over 159 years old today, I don't think that's a very meaningful question. Or, at least, it's a very philosophical one. Do the dead have rights?

Well, if you went to school instead of following your papa to work you would know some history. The border didn't cross you, it was beaten back in a War. A War that Mexico started, and America finished..Back when America had balls to finsih things.
Texas, Southern Cali, New Mexico were givin to the US in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
You don't hear Rome whinning about losing North Egypt, or Turkey do you?

Once you are a citizen you are an American citizen of the United States of America, with ethnic ties to another country. If you still identify your self as a Mexican, African, German, Irishman, Russian, Asian or anything else, then you don't belong here and it is time you packed up and left.
I am sick of people adding _______ American, either you are a true American or you need to get out and go to the country which holds your real loyalty.
Spoken by an American with multiple ethnic roots, but proud to be strictly American.

No. We got our land the same way Mexico got it to begin with except that we ALSO paid money, signed a treaty, and forgave debt.
The only Mexicans who got any special rights from that were the ones living here at the time, who had a year to decide if they wanted to be Americans or Mexicans. Those who decided to stay are Americans and most are against illegal immigration, themselves.

I think DAR answered the question perfectly. Those days are past and gone, people need to get with the times and follow the laws.
